I never understood the obsession with Tetris. Do you eventually "win" after so many levels? How many levels are there? How much harder do they get?

In more recent games, the way they get you in the extreme endgame is not only making pieces drop instantly, but making them fucking invisible

this is of a dev showing it off before the game released iirc

Does hiding the next block give you more points?

it determines letter grades. If you finish fast enough, you unlock the invisible credits roll. If you survive that with enough lines cleared, you'll get the highest rank possible, and a couple of lesser (but still incredibly impressive) letter grades are awarded if you clear too slow or can't survive till the end

If you don't finish all 999 levels fast enough, you have the semi invisible credits roll, which will award some lesser letter grades

Tetris Grandmaster games don't rely on points, they judge based on speed, lines cleared, and number of times you've tetris'd

I remember the first time I played a version with the ability to Hold a piece, after so many years only being familiar with the GameBoy version. I was like "That's cheating!"

Then recently I unlocked a Classic mode on Tetris Effect, and was shocked by how limited it felt (but still nostalgic)

In the GameBoy version, if you got over 100k points IIRC it would show a small animation of a rocket (missile?) Being launched.

I never found out if there was any other "content" beyond that
