I still miss this game and I've decided that's a good thing.

What are some fun ways to make a new playthrough interesting or elongate an ongoing one? Not necessarily challenge runs, more interested in reasons to stick around and enjoy the game.
And if you've done a bunch of playthroughs yourself, I'd like to hear about what makes them work and what makes you lose interest.

Bump. Definitely ran through all the side quests I could find a few times.
I never maxed out the affinity chart but that seems more like finding needles in haystacks than any enjoyment that's going to come naturally.

Not using Shulk at all except for when it's mandatory
Using Melia or Riki as your main... or even Sharla if you don't mind playing a healer
An "Ether party" vs. the more common physical topple-lock party (ie, Melia, Riki, and either of Sharla or Seven)

Just in my experience, most people use Shulk the whole game and barely touch Riki or Melia, but they're both really good...if you know what you're doing w/ them. Using Melia arts like Reflect or the sleep one (I forget the name) at just the right moment to disrupt nasty attacks is really fun if you can pull it off.

My main party was Shulk, Reyn and Spoiler, before I got tired of not having Shulk's ability that ups the chance of chain attacks continuing on all three and bought in Dunban for Belgazas and friends at the very end.

I've heard Melia's a good stand-in for Shulk and that was one of the things I wanted to try. Specifically the Melia/Riki/Sharla combo since they have a handful of blue/purple moves between them. Being able to repeatedly turn the chain attack color neutral like that sounds fun. Main issue with this would be that NG+ doesn't give you the whole party from the start.

I was pretty thorough on the whole. It was Definitive Edition but I didn't touch Expert Mode or Time Attack until after I'd maxed a playthrough out. I was really enjoying it and wanted it to last so I did all the levels/move/Colony 6 grinding the hard way. I'm short on new things to see so I'm relying on new ideas.

You know what would have been really nice? Just get Tony Hawk's Underground 2 and put that game's skateboarding in Xenoblade 1 as a movement option. Each party member could have different tricks and stats.
You'd get around faster and judging by the rails and buildings in Colony 9 and pretty much all of Frontier Village, you'd have a lot of fun just moving around.

Well, you get Melia and Riki before too long, especially on a replay, you can rush the first parts pretty fast. I'm pretty sure you can delay the Colony 6 stuff that shuts off the refugee camp side quests until after that... Like, I know Juju goes back there right before you enter Makna Forest, but I think you still get to have a say in when they move back there....

Right, come to think of it, I don't actually know how much skipping cutscenes and side quests speeds the game up. After the first run, I watched all the cutscenes in the second run as well because there were things about the characters I was curious about.

I would love to be able to ramp off parts of Valak and reach the high areas faster. Or jump off the high parts and take no fall damage because skateboard game logic.

Thanks to this being a Xenoblade 1 topic, I can bump it and play it off like some Monado changing the future thing.

They give you a few cosmetic options. Maybe the party could LARP for a few playthroughs.

Get spooked by Territorial Rotbart

Melia is pretty insane if you know what you're doing with her (though still not better than a topple lock abusing team). I fought some superbosses where I would apply her DoTs to them then I would sheathe my weapon and just run around in circles because they'd die even before they can kill me with an attack or two lol

This is one of those few rpgs where only the guy characters are any good in combat
