i work in a secure gov facility, so we need to swipe our badges to get into the building

sometimes i see coworkers talking to the security guards for a long time, like 5-15 minutes

they even know them by their first names!

like wtf are they talking about?

and i see them doing this at the end of the day when they're headed home too, so it's not just a stall tactic to avoid work

my convos with the security guards just go "good morning!", "how's it going?" and "have a good night!"

all the security guards seem to hate me because i refused to wear my badge on my exterior when i first started here

they're all gossiping about you is all

Because guards and services are treated like less than human and its nice to show them that you care.

This is especially true because theyre typically contractors and already feel like outsiders. Make them feel welcome.

You answered your own question. You wouldn't deign to talk to the plebs because there's no benefit to you. They know your deal.

Coworker: how was your weekend
Security: pretty good. my wife and I went to the Beyonce concert on saturday. it was amazing.
Coworker: tell me about it. what did she sing? was jz there? i bet those tickets were expensive.
**Security proceeds to answer questions.**
**15 minutes later, tc passes by**
Tc to himself: why don't they ever talk to me like that. all i get is, good morning, how's it going. and all i do each time is respond, good morning, i'm good.
