This is so stupid there's actually no way they'll keep it. It would kill Twitter immediately.

It's even funnier that there's a limit for the paid users.

So if you follow a half dozen nhl related accounts you'd probably hit 600 in ten minutes today with free agency going on

When you click on any tweet it loads 20+ more immediately. This is so dumb I'm honestly speechless.

I think that rule is temporary to fix some issues that are having with people scraping twitter.

Thankfully thunderfoot was calling this guy out for being a con man back in 2014, so I never believed his shit, but the vast majority of people thought he was a Tony Stark genius

The worst part of all this "social" media stuff is that the vast majority of people never communicate with each other. It's why I legitimately still prefer gamefaqs, a decrepit old site from the 90s after all this time.

We're always just following celebrities in one way relationships. But in a way, it makes you appreciate talking to people in real life more.

Twitter is a megaphone for yelling at the clouds and getting self-gratification from likes. Also it's used by businesses to propagate news (instead of paying for the infrastructure to actually provide the news) which is why the media is having a fit.

That second bit is probably what broke Twitter. Apparently, since that boneheaded decision, Twitter has been effectively DDOSing itself.

FYI Twitter as a company has always been bleeding money. It's value has always been in its stock, because Twitter is influential and culturally relevant, not because Twitter as a business was profitable. The previous CEOs ran Twitter with this in mind, doing whatever possible to keep the stock value high while almost ignoring the prospect of making Twitter profitable as a company.

Elon supposedly trying do the opposite, focus on making Twitter profitable as a business. All these things he's trying that upsets the userbase is apparently steps taken to try and achieve that.

Even more reason to leave. I run my own small business, and when you see a platform isn't working, you switch to something else. There's other social media platforms that are much more friendly to both businesses and consumers (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc) that can be used instead.

If your business model relies entirely on the popularity of one platform, then you deserve to burn to the ground with that platform.

It is like the people who complain about Youtube not being profitable while not exploring the hundreds of other ways to share your content.

Seems like some western artists are already leaving, one of the ones I follow seem to be investing time into some other platform called cohost (seems to be similar to tumblr, and definitely not safe for work) which I know very little about.

Fuck yeah, worker-owned companies are the only way to go. Everything else is a scam. The only person that should be telling a programmer what to do is another engineer, no more coked-up rat CEOs or naive tech bro kids.

Their business model is identical to the one I came up with in the other topic. The difference is that they ask for community donations instead of crowd-hosting.

This honestly stopped being true once the Social Media Age took off. These days bad publicity can utterly devastate a company. Just ask Disney how they've been doing lately.

It doesn't matter if people are talking about you, if the things they're saying are "Don't watch this film", "Don't use this product", "Don't support this company" - and then other people listen.

The only actual positive Disney has at the moment is their parks (and those mostly outside the US). Everything else is in a downturn right now. Disney+ has been operating at a loss almost from the very beginning. Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty much their only major movie so far this year that even managed to break even. They're firing thousands of employees in a desperate attempt to streamline and rebalance the books. They've pulled multiple shows off Hulu and Disney+ so they can use them as tax write-offs (which means no one will ever be able to see them again - the same thing WB/Discovery did with HBO Max after their merger). They're overspending and underperforming to their own expectations.

And that's before getting into the multiple massive lawsuits they're currently dealing with.

So yeah, Disney's not really as healthy as they might like you to believe right now.
