Heineken is being sarcastic, I'm pretty sure. Or more around the lines that just because we've had a black president, doesn't mean racism is over.

How do you feel about rich people who buy their kids' way into ivy league universities?
Same thing? If you don't agree with my opinion then just say so and explain your reasoning if you want.

Otherwise I'm not interesting in irrelevant and redundant questions asked back to back.

There are legitimately people who think like "it is in place because they actually are inferior and we are being nice by making sure some of them can still get in" out there.

It may just be some long term copium for people who don't mind being racist.

I don't know if now is a good time to take it away yet, but the training wheels have to come off at some point for people like that to really start getting forced to acknowledge that, yes, they can be just as smart as you (or smarter, when compared to unapologetic racists).

The average American doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about when it comes to SCOTUS or the government

As such, this poll is meaningless

Sort of. This cuts both ways too though. I imagine a lot of lawyers have a very different take on the student loan decision than the general public because if you remove yourself from the political/social issue and focus on the simple legal question in the case its not as bad of a decision.

To me the worst argued opinion of the group this past week was the wedding website case. They twisted themselves in knots to end up where they did. The AA and student loan decisions have much more solid reasoning.

On the face AA seems bad but imo American institutions spent so much effort and time keeping minorities down that we need to put at least as much time and effort into rebalancing the scales, which is why stuff like AA and reparations makes sense

I agree with your point but isnt that a matter for the legislature? I dont want the SC making that kind of a decision one way or the other.

No. It should be the role of colleges to pick their own student body and if they value diversity then they can have a diverse student body.

Approve, I was never a fan of things like affirmative. Being chosen for something not due to ones ability amd hard work but just to meet a quota never never felt right to me.

You don't understand what affirmative action is, then. Got it.

"More solid reasoning," than, "we made shit up from thin air for a case that never actually existed," is such a low bar to clear.

Maybe that was your point, and I didn't catch the sarcasm.

Its kind of complicated--i dont agree with just getting rid of it but i also hate the idea that a solution to poverty is "let a small number of people escape from those conditions. The ones that remain dont deserve anything better"

Yeah, I agree with this.

Most people here don't even know how college admissions occur. Harvard and other ivy leagues tend to use adversity based admission for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Affirmative action played a role in establishing this change to admissions but aside from the early days of affirmative action, skin color alone is not a deciding factor in whether or not they admit you. The SC ruling on Friday did not change this process.

So cry and bitch and moan all you want Mr. 4.67 gpa because you'll still be rejected since gpa means less than the letter tied to it and if you didn't get in before, you're still not getting in now.
