*shrugs* before Twitter it was Tumblr. It's a bit ridiculous to claim that art communities won't just find a new hosting site like they have for decades.

Twitter going under means like maybe a month or so of chaos then back to normal as people settle in to the new "best thing."

It's the internet. Youtube could go down tomorrow and people would just move to the next thing after a little while, even if it wasn't quite as good. The only thing going under that would be catastrophic currently is if Google and Amazon somehow both went down.

Aside from that, Twitter going under doesn't mean shit aside from a little bit of inconvenience for a while. Although to be honest, I hate the aggregate/"everything is here" in general sites. I miss the smaller communities. Can't really stand shit like Twitter and Reddit.

The worst thing about Twitter going under is that it will make it much harder to keep abreast of breaking news. Like, think of how much less we would know about what's going on in Ukraine if Twitter weren't a thing.

It's pretty easy to keep up with if you check on it even once a day via a search, with sources other than twitter as well. More or less the same amount of information would be there, it would just require a few keystrokes rather than having it dragged across your face.

Same with Reddit shitting the bed, the 2 main ways i got news are now either completely unusable or an absolute pain in the ass to access.

This, sure it can be a pain but people will always find an alternative or at best create their own.

Musk can't afford Meta, it's at least 10x the value of Twitter even before bought by Musk.

Burning down Twitter, as much as the idea fills me with petty glee, is objectively going to have bad consequences. Besides the obvious reasons, it's a quarantine zone. It'd be like shutting down LUE immediately after spotfaqs happened.

Even if twitter dies, the userbase will always concentrate somewhere sooner or later.

It may take some time, but there will always be some mainstream standard plattform.
