on checking if you're an authorized user on the card you're using? This has gotten a lot of publicity , maybe not as much as netflix's much harsher policy on password sharing, though.

I don't even have a Costco nearby. Closest thing to it is Sam's Club.

Last time I was there I was asked by an employee to show my card in the self-checkout line prior to using it. It didnt really make sense because you need to scan it before you can start ringing up items.

Nah. I shop at Costco all the time, and if the membership helps keep prices down, I'm all for them being strict on it.

yeah iirc every single self checkout customer must now do that. Why did they put a bunch of self checkouts there, anyway? just make them all regular check outs

Because too many people were using memberships that werent theirs. If it keeps costs down, Im all for it.

Get your own membership if you want to shop there.

Costco is being more vigilant of non-members using someone else's card. It's like Netflix account sharing but in real life. This is becoming more problematic on Costco stores with self-check out .

As a Costco shareholder I appreciate your concern for me. I can confirm however that the company is doing just fine and the increase in crackdowns aren't necessary to keep costs down. It's to keep my dividends growing.

Yeah the membership fee is how the prices or low. So please just pay the fee, you would be saving so much money.

Why would I be irritated by them enforcing rules? If you want to shop there pay for a membership.

The first time I was. Now I have my card ready for them to ask.

They'd still be profitable without membership fees at all. The no frills stacks of raw pallets in a warehouse shopping experience combined with hyper efficiency, no ads, and low employee turnover is how the prices are low.

i save at least twice on costs with what i pay in membership fees even with the additional bullcrap imo.

psn currency cards x2 = save 20$ each month (it'll go down to 10$ when i switch over to try and buy out of print ps3 games).

yes, but people aren't just sharing their card with their S0 or immediately family member but all their friends as well.

I heard about this, but I haven't experienced it at all. Been to costco quite a few times since people mentioned it. Different ones too.
