what part of "flawed" in my OP was misunderstood?
it had many problems, but had it become something more akin to a modernized 11 (which it was on track to be, as they started adding in NMs, etc.) rather than the theme park hotbar patch cycle vertical gear grind bullshit mmo it became like literally everything else on the market, id have been thrilled
the story is overhyped as fuck, the world is boring and pointless (but pretty), the combat is rote with zero flexibility
it is literally dress up and cutscene simulator

if you had played 11 and 14 1.0, 14 was very much shaping up to be a successor in the same vein. from the aesthetic/setting ( the races, three city states, conquest, beastmen, etc.) to the gameplay (crossclassing, focus sandbox party play, lateral gear progression with situational abilities). it was 11-2.

it had a myriad of issues, and instead of fixing them and working within the same style of MMO, they hired a dude who played western MMOs and literally reworked it with the mindset "it needs to be more like world of warcraft"

so now crossclassing is gone. zones are empty theme parks. gear is a 100% vertical progression on a patch cycle that leaves basically nothing to do in between but fuckin duty roulettes with randos and meaningless filler activities. its final fantasy flavored wow

but hey, emet selch is cool or something

I dunno how you can do savage or ultimate raids in 14 and say there's no depth to the classes. The variances for your rotations to line up with the fight timings is super important and then the difference with someone who is actually good with their class and one who isn't is night and day.

the "when" of pressing a button to align with incredibly scripted fight mechanics is not class depth, its rotation optimization
call me when your dragoon can subclass a mage job and be a competent healer, or your ninja can be the highest DPS and most heal efficient tank by subclassing warrior, or your red mage can subclass ninja and solo world bosses
also you need the appropriate gear and spells (bought/quested/dropped) to run these builds and any permutation thereof

i did ult alex
i parsed 97 on a few shadowbringers fights
shit is just memorization of mechanics and optimization of a routine

Whatever design changes that happened because of Yoshi P isn't he the one that fixed that and got them able to crank out expansions and patches on a really tight schedule? Game design and project management are different issues and it sounds like he pretty comprehensively solved at least one of them for 14.

the demo sucks balls, but you can tell if they worked out the issues it would prolly be pretty stellar
so they decide to work out the issues by bringing in a dude whos a super big total war fan and he makes it a fuckin total war game because those games are popular and sell well

It especially makes no sense to keep 11 and 14 both running, when both of them cater to the same taste and customers.
