Good! Enforce the anti discrimination law as is. We need more blue state AG's to take this stance.

Like a lot of states it really depends on where you go. Tucson has always been the liberal hotbed in Arizona, but recently Phoenix has been swinging left (as shown in the elections, since more than 50% of the population is in Phoenix)

But there are still a lot a rural hellholes around, but overall as a state we are constantly making progress.... just don't visit in the Summer unless you somehow enjoy 110 degree weather

Seems like she's one of the few Democrats with both sense and a spine. This is what they all should be doing. Wouldn't be surprised if she gets scolded by the establishment Dems for daring to go against an US institution like the Supreme Court.

I don't really know how I feel about commissioned work and the rights around it.

There could be innumerable reasons to not want to take a job that are perfectly fine.
This is probably going to force people to obfuscate more during the whole process so they have plausible deniability.

That said if they want to operate in the public market then there has to be a common set of rules. I dunno.

Artists should decide the content of their art while who they have to sell to can be determined by the state. If you allow the state to compel speech, youll get shit like Florida passing laws to force artists to accept anti lgbt commissions and then proceed to deliberately hire(likely personally or through non-government organizations affiliated with them) leftist and lgbt artists to make such things.

Props to her for standing her ground. That ruling sends us several steps backwards. It hasn't even been 60 years since the Civil Rights Act was passed and outlawed businesses from discriminating.

Yep, Flagstaff is also the other left leaning/liberal hotbed.

It's definitely slowly moving left everywhere in the state. Very slowly, where elections are still too close for comfort, but if the democrats can start taking some of the local elections, and finally get the majority in the in-state legislature AZ should be blue for years to come. I do my part and vote in everything I can.

Honestly, that's how we should handle every SC case moving forward. This court is woefully corrupt and manned mostly by turmpy boy stooges. No ruling they issue should be adhered to in any way.

This would be very dangerous precedent. The SCOTUS is a joke right now and that opinion is trash but Im not going to support any AG going rogue whether I agree with their moral position or not.

It's not going to end good for the AG or the states tax payers if SCOTUS has to slap them down multiple times. Honestly given the precedent, it wont even make it that far, the state courts will tell her to fuck off at this point, as will any police or administrators she uses to try an enforce it.

Yup.
If the court has destroyed democracy on the previous case, it would leave little choice but a soft revolution. Here, this is just salt over which rights take precedent. 1A vs anti-discrimination protections.

Yeah one thing that really surprised me when I was in Phoenix in April was the amount of dislike people had for President Tangerine and his cultists.

CE had lead me to believe that the entire state was some deranged Republican shithole, but it really isnt. Sure some of the rural areas were a bit more redneck (looking at you Marana and Casa Grande) but as usual CE grossly exaggerated the right wingness of the state.

The supreme court is trash. Not democratically voted in, and there for LIFE.

No intelligent person looks at that and thinks it's anywhere near fair and balanced, and what a healthy democracy should strive for.

It's a relic. Relics should/ and do get replaced/made obsolete. Like slavery.

The Supreme Court already fucked the whole system up. It's done. The instittuoins are dead. By tying yourselves to them, you're just letting yourself get punched in the face and tying your hands behind your back. We're going to move into a more dangerous, much more uncertain world, but blindly following their rulings at this point won't help anything.

If you do that, you get more bad rulings and the bad rulings don't go against conservatives. But if you start ignoring them, conservatives already get the rulings they want, and conservatives have a long history of ignoring court orders they don't like with either impunity or creativity (see Brown v. Board), so not that much changes.

Ehh.. it feels like that's true for artists to an extent, but right now we *do* compel speech in some art - barbers can't refuse service to black people.

Which Florida law and instance of hire/work are you referring to?

I actually agree with the ruling as I understand it- I agreed with a similar one regarding what decorations they could be required to put on cakes - but I'm still glad to see people disregarding it because it's completely illegitimate.
