Worth noting this is a safe dem state district where Republican primaries aren't held. She's going to retire most likely, a Dem will replace her by 2025 either by default or by her losing a general. It's fairly likely this is a publicity stunt in response to a likely primary challenge.

This will keep happening while the democratic party insists on being "centrist".

For money. Canadace Owens started out as a progressive voice, she realized she could make way more money as a black woman hating black people and justifying the racism of white supremacist right-wingers, so that's what she does, and now she's a millionaire married to a multi-millionaire.

In this case, nothing. GOP already holds a solid majority in the Georgia House and the voters will replace her with a Democrat the moment they get the opportunity next year. Unlike the incident in North Carolina, theres no benefit for them to bribe her to defect.

This wasnt a political move as its career suicide in her district. This was a financial move. Shes doing this now so she can get an 18 month head start on being part of the MAGA money grifter train.

Both of these. Because of our two party system generally people are not voting for the person. They are voting for the party.

It wouldnt. If a law was passed that changing parties triggered a special election, they wouldnt change parties. They would just vote the opposite way of the party they represent while still carrying the party name.
