Griftlands | This is the second one I want to play most and I know this one probably has the most story out of every deckbuilder. Unlike most DBs this one has a combat deck and a negotiations deck. I know this one will be good because Klei, like Supergiant Games makes nothing but smash-hits. Dont Starve is one of my favorite games of all time and Oxygen not Included was stellar. Rotwood demo was pretty fun! | https://store.steampowered.com/app/601840/Griftlands/
Griftlands is really fun, the dynamics between negotiation and combat is great. I'd recommend it.

Across the Obelisk is great too, it's difficult to understand at first, but once you get it and with the double route upgrades you can make some strong decks that can get you through. The coop idea is a bit ehh, but it's whatever IMO. You CAN play with friends, they may not enjoy waiting too much for others who take too long however. Together in Spire (coop mod for slay the spire) handles it better.

Bought Monster Train now. Let's see what I think once I get into it properly.

I've played a tooon of Night of the full moon. Not sure I'd call it good? Most classes can break the game pretty easily. But it's fun :) the added autobattler game mode is decent too.

Honestly I think autobattlers like Dota chess/TFT scratch a pretty similar itch to deck builders. But it takes too much time to stay up to date with the meta and stuff.

Any of them. At high difficulty the final boss has a mechanism to counter your specific class and it's very hard. For example the Knight final boss has a thing that destroys lots of equipment and there's a nasty thing that happens if you have no equipment to destroy and its extremely hard to keep up.

Yeah. Knight is surprisingly tricky given that the game ranks its difficulty as one star. If you have the cards from the added castle quest it gets a little easier, but essentially you'll wanna just stock up on card draw. Knight has several excellent options, particularly that card (Support?) that you draw whenever you play an attack. If you can draw through enough, and then have a couple action points, hopefully you can deplete its HP fast enough that the equipment breaking counter resets. It's been very long since I played without the DLC cards though. With a good setup, you can stack hundreds of armor pretty fast and use the spiked shield equipment to wreck the boss on like turn 2-3.
For me, the easiest classes are probably Witch, Mechanic, and Nun, in that order. And the hardest are probably Soul Hunter, Werewolf, and then Knight/Rogue maybe? But they get really nice blessings and cards from the DLC.

recently tried some cheap + early access game called innkeeper's basement that's like some strange cross of a deckbuilder, an rpg, and minesweeper

it's extremely unbalanced and I would not really recommend it but it has one thing I thought was cool which is that you can play as many or as few cards as you want in a turn, and you need to pass turns for your resources to fill back up (hand, stamina, magic). so if you have no stamina to play cards with you have to find some way of burning turns by either exploring new tiles or waiting at campfires or etc... but if there are enemies currently active on the map they're just beating on you the whole time you wait around lol

Okay so I've more game that totally slipped under the radar is Ring of Pain.

It's not strictly a deckbuilder. Yes everything is a card but they feel more like a framing device. The main deckbuilding is more like having a ton of equipment, you don't play them like you would a normally with cards.

TLDR; just watch the trailer its one of my favorite game trailers of all time:

Well now that you've bought it you might as well try it, it's sort of fun in a kind of nonsense way

my first ever game I got killed by the dungeon boss since it had approximately 100x the hp of the average enemy on the floor and I was caught totally offguard. my second ever game I built an infinite combo and destroyed him. 90% of the cards / items / etc in the game sort of suck but the 10% that don't are just so strong

Oh okay gotcha, yeah didn't seem like anything I had seen before.
It's just generally better than every other game in the genre as well. If there was one that could really definitively be considered the best, it's definitely Shandalar. The only other thing that comes close in terms of "being the best of its genre" is Death Stranding, and that is more because there really isn't anything that really embodies "walking simulator" as hard while also actually being good.

Anyways, beyond those mentioned already there is Banners of Ruin (a bit too easy so it really doesn't have much longevity), Card City Nights (not a roguelite, but a fun little TT-style adventure), Ironclad Tactics (alt-WW Megaman Battle Network that is too easy for most of it), and Potionomics (Reccettear style affair that misses the mark, but you can do some goofy nonsense so it works out) that come to mind as potentially fun enough. There are probably others that I'm forgetting. I *have* played quite a few card games overall. ~.~

Oh yeah, in addition to breach wanderers there was another that really piqued my interest for a while on mobile: tavern rumble.

Deckbuilder where each round you place units from your cards on a 3x3 grid. If there's an event opposite them, they attack/ block that enemy. If there's no enemy opposite them, they attack the most top left enemy, and can't block. With a few exceptions, you lose your units each turn.

It adds an interesting layer of spacial thinking to a mobile game

Edit: had the name wrong, it's tavern rumble, not tavern brawl.

There's a couple of superbosses that can show up in act 3 of breach wanderers. I haven't managed to win against one yet, even when I have a very strong deck and go in with full health and get some setup going, it seems like all of them have hidden seconds phases where they apply a zillion buffs just like the champion in STS

Shandalar Is my favorite also. So many hours playing it.

And then an obscure game only found on the Xbox 360 - Culdcept Saga. Just a pure hidden gem that was my favorite console game. So good. Great story driven card game. I would wait every week when they kept announcing backwards compatible additions but it never made the cut.

Monster Train is also still my favorite.

But recently I tried a few phone stuff cuz I got 3 months of Google Play Pass for free. Turns out Rogue Adventure is pretty good. It has a lot of yugioh reference, which is great for me personally, but it also adapts some of the more unique stuff from it, like having 5 robot parts that make a pretty powerful card. Cards also have evolution requirements like having to get x amount of shield or burn status etc, and they'll turn into powerful cards as well.

Honestly a big surprise, very enjoyable. Though I would bet the non-pass experience isn't quite so gracious. I think the extra gold from shops that are pretty indispensable in later difficulties require watching ads, for example.

I've been having pretty bum luck lately in breach wanderers. Had 2 consecutive runs die in act 1, had a couple that made it deep into act 3 but never really had any cohesion so died to a boss, and haven't rolled an act 3 superboss in a week or so.

Maybe I need to refine my starting decks or pools, but I haven't felt very inspired by any archetype lately.

It used to be even uglier, but I don't think it's ever going to polish up. It's a very rough visual layer with a set of mechanics that most closely resembles Across the Obelisk - lots of buffs and debuffs and a lot of reliance on synergy over singular powerful cards.

I love rogue adventure. The crappy basic graphics probably put off a lot of people but it's actually a super deep game with a great difficulty slider and lots of different modes. Overall way more content than STS and great strategies / synergies like with race cards.

Monster Train is definitely a fun one.

Also, while not a deck builder as each character has a pre-built deck, Sentinels of the Multiverse is pretty fun and as a superhero card game does generally revolve around getting out and keeping in play things like equipment cards and using powers and one-shot cards as needed, etc.
