It's like Republicans specifically look for people who are as out of touch as possible

Its a conservative thing in general. The Tories do it too.

I did electrical work immediately out of high school as well.
His boots story sounds as much bullshit as anything else he's ever said.

Electricians really don't want dumb fucks around while working, maybe the story is true and they were trying to get rid of him as soon as they met him.

I'd argue it's even worse in the UK than the US

In the US the GOP and Trump are exetremely unpopular, they get dominated in the popular vote and left wing policies have mass public approval in polls. They win with gerrymandering, breaking the law and voter suppression

In the UK the Tories have been in power for 2 decades and get dominant majorities with their MPs. They successfully blamed all their problems on gays, transgenders, foreigners and "Woke" and convinced 30 million people that's why everything sucks and not to listen to any basic facts.

Even now the only reason the Tories are at risk of losing their power is because Labour are not backing Unions, accepting bans to protests and also blaming foreigners/transgenders for the UK's problems. Adopting the exact same tactics of right wing blind stoking of anger to crush most of the population to prop up billionaires.

It's so fucking nasty. I hate it.

I know that suffering/hardships are subjective, but if this is one of the biggest struggles of his life, then he must have never faced any real adversity.

he went to Yale and was in the military, but this is what he comes up with. smh.

Because it's a transparent bullshit story. He's trying to "relate" to Americans but only 1% of them ever joined the military and even fewer went to Yale.

truu.

I just looked at his Wikipedia page, and it said his sister, and only sibling, died when he was a teenager, and that would have been a more meaningful and relatable example.

I know a lot of people don't want to go that personal, so I can't blame him for not doing so, but still...
