If you were a certain age (most of us here I gather), there is a significant nostalgia factor to the N64, but the console itself is really honestly trash, a casualty of companies not knowing what they were doing in the 3D era + the tech for home consoles not yet being there. Quite a few games from that time also don't play well unless you had them as a kid and knew how to work their quirks.

Nah... I mean, it was a huge part of my childhood and I absolutely love the system... Zelda, Mario, Banjo, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Conker.... It was good but not the greatest.

The Zelda games were decent games but are massively overhyped.

Goldeneye was some great multiplayer times.

Thats more or less it in terms of noteworthy stuff. Of course there were other games to play, but a good console should have more than a handful of great games.

Its not the greatest but I still come back to play OOT, Mario 64, Starfox, and Goldeneye.

If Shadows of the Empire or Rogue Squadron showed up on switch I would pick them up instantly.

It's a D from me. I would actually argue it's one of nintendo's worse releases, that was the time when playstation came up and took over gaming market from nintendo.

Not even the best of its generation. That's not to say it's bad though; it had some tough competition.

Unfortunately the first generation of 3D consoles aged very poorly. You could make a case that it was the most revolutionary for its time, compared to other generations, though.

I love Nintendo and it had some good games, but hard D.

Polygons could be rendered and were sharper on N64, but after getting a Playstation, it really put into perspective how sluggish most of the games played.

D. Tiny, cookie cutter library of games. If you don't like bland collect-a-thons there's nothing to play. Even if you do, most of the library has aged like milk.

It wasn't even the best in its generation nor anywhere close to the best in Nintendo's catalaogue.

Id argue that outside of its amazing RPGs, very few PS1 games have aged well either.

I feel like the NES has a pretty strong argument here, if for no other reason than because it basically saved the video games industry in North America after the crash of 1983.

My wife and I bought one our first year of marriage and spent hours playing Mario Kart and Podracer together. We often raced to decide who would do dishes or other chores-the best way to handle any potential marital dispute!

Easily. The only home gaming experience that rivals playing WCW vs nWo: World Tour, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, and all the rest with some friends (key point here) is playing Halo 3 with the boys in the mid to late 00s. Or maybe playing MapleStory or Runescape in the school library. Anyway, all of this is to say that I'm very lucky that gaming as a whole peaked during my childhood and it really sucks that everyone else has a wrong opinion about this.

Love me some N64, grew up with it.... but its not the greatest console in ANY metric except MAYBE being the easiest to set up in that Gen, maybe.... and only because the other two were disc based
