Hard for sure.

We are going to start a multiplayer party with 3 pen and paper veterans.

Not DnD 5e veterans, but still.

Hard or normal 1st. 2nd playthrough I'll go through whatever the game's equivalent of Divinity's Tactician Mode is.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Not really. BG3 is turn based instead of the real-time combat of Diablo. It's also a much more story driven game, whereas in Diablo the story is pretty much just a bridge into the mid + end game. If you've ever played Divinity:Original Sin 1 or 2, BG3 is similar to that game (with both games coming from the same developers).

Yes. Some of the unique items might have some set stats, buy you can expect pretty much everything to have random rolls on their stats.

Playing EA on normal right now and it feels pretty good. Most regular fights I can just walk into and get out of fine, but quests or anything with a boss or 8+ enemies takes more planning and a couple resets

The BG series takes place in the DnD universe.

It takes place in Faerun, the Forgotten Realms setting, which for 5th edition is the mainline setting, but there are other campaign settings besides that like Ravenloft, Dragonlance, Planescape, ect. The Forgotten Realms is the one with the most high fantasy-esque theme, but it can kind of fit for pretty much anything.

To add to this answer BG3's gameplay is mostly based on DnD 5E.

To answer the topic probably normal. If I ever try the harder difficulty it'll be on a later playthrough when I'm more familiar with the combat. I played the Early Access till the level cap which took me about 17-ish hours.

'I ain't playing that @#%'

I'd love to, but Limited run would have to step in for an (expensive) actual physical edition first. I just got my Series account back and recovering digital games is a time-consuming chore.

Otherwise, the answer would be 'Normal'. Combat using die rolls is already hard enough.

i start every game normal and bump it up if it's too easy, or if harder modes give you more shit.

Taking a shot in the dark to see if anyone more familiar with 5th edition can give me an answer: is there any reason to choose a storm sorcerer over whatever draconic ancestry color gives you bonuses to electric damage? I wanted to do a sorcerer (which maybe two levels in tempest cleric?) with electric attacks to make use of the fact that Larian lets you synergize with things in the environment, but Storm Sorcery doesn't look like it gives you much.

Yes. Storm Sorcerer is more offensive than Draconic, so if you are in it for the damage it is the obvious pick. That said it is only more offensive based on sticking with it, so you are potentially better off with Draconic for multiclassing. The other relevant bit is that you can still get a draconic bloodline through other means so you can get get "both" in that scenario, but it requires that you be a Storm Sorcerer to start with.
