Yet they want us to work in-office 3 days a week. So lemme get this straight:

>Im sitting somewhere different every day.
>I cant make my space feel customized and more like home because its actually not my space
>I cant keep my custom setup to ease my workflow(multiple monitors, ergonomic peripherals)
>We are being placed in a segregated workspace that others us from our commercial colleagues

Sucks. Dont see the benefit.

The benefit is to remind you they are in control, not you.

Oh, you meant for you? There isn't one.

Can you all not discuss desk usage like a group of adults? Surely just because your bosses arent telling you where you have to sit doesnt mean you cant decide amongst yourselves where you will sit.

We moved office and one of the things they mentioned is how big the desks were. But they weren't assigned so you had all this counter space for your one laptop and notebook. No clutter, just barren unused space.

There will always be that one person who will make it difficult if not impossible.

The benefit is that they can get away with less office space if they can reuse desks for multiple employees.

Presumably to use the space beneficially if the individual worker works from home several days.

My office did this when we reopened after COVID. They don't require us to come in though so the lack of an assigned workspace makes more sense. If you want to come in, there's a site you log into which will place you in a section of the office based on who else from your department is coming in that day. Then just find an open space in that section. There are desks with single monitors, dual monitors, and standing desk setups.

It's nice for the 2-3 days I go in each year. If I had to be in the office 3 days a week, I'd want my own desk though.

Explain it to me. TC said that they took away assigned desks and his reaction seems to be as if he is being forced to use a different desk every day. I dont understand why removing assigned desks didnt lead to the group deciding where they want to sit.

That sucks. One of the benefits of working from home that I didn't really think about until I was doing it is that I can set up my work space exactly how I want it.

Well more like they don't like the way things are run. Maybe it's a good line of work to be in but the bullshit you have to put up with overshadows any upsides to the opportunity it grants. It's a common sentiment on CE and it causes me to want to empathize with people who say the working world is broken and unsalvageable but at the same time I feel like a hypocrite because I've got nowhere near that level of disdain for my place of work (which is fucking rare, I'm usually grumpy as hell about where I work, especially my previous job).

Were only in office about once a week and have no assigned desks, but we're all pretty mature about it and just assigned ourselves desks. Just because the company doesn't assign you a place to sit doesn't mean you can't choose one yourself.

Mine is the same. I don't mind reserving the desk for one day (they don't actually make us stick to the section where everyone is though so my friend and I always get our desks on the other side of the building). If I had to go in for three days a week though it would be annoying, even though 99.9% of the time I'm always able to reserve the same desk.

Its common because its common for management to want to do things that are at odds with a good workplace experience for the employee. Because in america most businesses are all about asserting their power over the underlings

yes even at a job where you enjoy the day-to-day work

It sounds like they're going to do this to us in a few years. Definitely not looking forward to it. They say if we want our own desk we have to come into the office more. Screw that.
