Probably poorly. There are enough Trump sycophants who will vote for people who Trump tells them to but won't vote for his opponent in a "fair" nomination process.

In addition DeSantis has doubled down on all of the terminally online conservative things that turns off people outside of Florida.

DeSantis is like the Republican version of Hillary Clinton, in that he has a devoted fanbase that only exists narrowly within the Republican party and zero cross-party appeal. Republicans would lose in a landslide.

Trump will run as a third party option, the republican vote will be split and Biden would have the easiest victory since 1984.

If somehow Trump is kept from running? It will be far closer but I think DeSantis obsession with "woke" will be his downfall.

Likely that "floss" dance with a wide grin on his face.

Personally, I think he loses in a landslide.

The maps are too red for that, and we still don't know if a third party will try to insert themselves on the premise that Biden is too old and potentially split the base.

Basically what everyone else said, DeSantis is a terrible candidate whose campaign is already imploding before he's even gotten it all the way off the ground. The only way he gets the nom is basically by default, and someone like Biden would absolutely obliterate him in debates because the guy is a fucking weirdo who can't take tough questions.

He's Republican Kamala Harris, mixed with Republican Hillary Clinton as another poster said. So he's a terrible candidate. That shouldn't give people too much comfort though because Hillary almost (and should have) won despite her narrow base.

About the same as any year because most people vote for the letter. Only certain segments of the voting population would be in play, so the election would be won or lost in only a few states, like always.

People will still try to turn the focus on Trump. Like say Trump will run independent. Or compare DeSantis to Trump. Trump isn't like Bernie Sanders or Tim Kaine where if he loses he steps out of spotlight and you dont hear him in news much.

Won't have the fanatical turnout Trump has. Plus he's a PR nightmare. He just had a staffer post a video with Nazi imagery and had to remove it and fire the staffer but the damage has been done and it'll be brought up 1,000 times if he gets the nom.

In a vacuum I think he does better than Trump against Biden. DeSantis has no charisma, but Trump would motivate a lot of people to vote against him.

Reality isn't a vacuum though, and Trump would likely try to sabotage Desantis.

The more people (even psychopaths like Republican primary voters) see and hear from DeSantis and his campaign, the less they like him. That doesn't bode well for him under the spotlight of a presidential campaign.

But basically any Republican candidate could still win if Biden were to like, have a stroke or a heart attack next October.

This is the most realistic option. He is essentially the Jeb! for this cycle. An uncharismatic weirdo propped up by old establishment Republicans. He won't win the primary unless there is a huge chain of weird events that happen.

Also, its hilarious watching DeShitstainis crash and burn. Faux News was/is desperately blowing this guy and trying to pump him up as the new hotness to chuds, because they know now that Trump is an anchor around their necks, and they want badly to move on from him (could've voted to impeach twice, and looked like saner heads within the party prevailed but nope. Let's ride the Trump train right into the ravine while showing there are no saner heads left.)

However, DeShitstainis is learning the lesson I knew he'd learn as soon as he threw his hat in the ring: Florida is not America.

It's easy to look like BIG STORNG MAN when you surround yourself with yes-men who will honk and cheer at each new bigoted piece of legislation you shit out, and only allow right wing journalists to lob softballs at you all day, but the real DeShitstainis peeked through whenever there was any pushback, a bobbleheaded caricature who throws tantrums like the baby he is.

The only positive thing Trump will give this country for the next 16 months (besides watching his obviously guilty ass squirming through his court proceedings) is eviscerating this asswipe and ending his political career.

desantis is so dumb he is trying to run to the right of trump and doesn't realize the cult base isn't going to him no matter what. his only shot was to appeal to moderates and to make the case he was more electable in a general, now that avenue is closed.

its hilarious seeing him tank his political aspirations worse than jeb bush but it is crazy that the gop are just going to nominate the twice impeached criminal loser who got smacked by biden last time and could be in prison before the general election

I think Republicans have a significantly worse shot at the presidency with DeSantis. He's basically all the cons that come with Trump, but none of the pros (namely, the rabidly loyal fanbase and willingness to circumvent the political game to do whatever the fuck he wants).

And that's without acknowledging the fact that Trump will 100% smear DeSantis if he loses the primary to him.

So he'd have to govern from prison? That'd be funny. Although if Trump actually won again I'm sure his cronies would figure a way to get him out.

If he does go to prison he should make a deal with DeSantis to endorse and give him all his maga supporters in exchange for a pardon. Maybe even be VP himself.
