About the only anomaly in that list is that the N64 didn't really retain any naming similarities with the SNES, despite the latter moving a tonne of units.

Not so much in the official name, but given how many people just called the SNES "Super Nintendo," "Nintendo" with a different qualifying adjective is pretty consistent. In the modern era, "64" doesn't seem very descriptive because technical progression has gotten so nuanced and most people don't understand any of it anymore, but at the time people were generally aware of the difference between 8-bit and 16-bit, such that emphasizing that it was 64-bit (which even skipped 32-bit! How exciting!) made it clear that it was an upgrade.

I hope this console is underpowered too.

I unironically agree, to a certain extent. Chasing power is boring, and I've already got a PC for that. We've hit a point where there isn't that much more that can be done to meaningfully improve games with additional power (TotK's phenomenal draw distance and near-seamless transitions are an example of something that can be improved with a stronger system, but TotK has already done about as much as anyone can be expected to in that regard, on the Switch), so I'd rather see a weaker system for the sake of keeping the cost down and/or adding further utility (like handheld mode) than sacrifice those savings/utility for the sake of shinier pixels.

Scalping should be illegal though.

Although it's a nice sentiment -- since scalpers add no value to the process and grift a fortune -- it's infeasible. The best method would probably be anti-price-gouging laws (set to around MSRP, where it couldn't be more than 5-10% higher on actively-produced product), which would let the government crack down on the marketplaces to make it harder for scalpers to resell. However, so long as people are willing to pay scalper prices, there will be scalpers.

But obviously it's ridiculous. You'll have computers automatically placing hundreds of pre-orders/orders on behalf of individuals/organizations (or thousands, in the case of tickets).

However, as adjl notes, the only real long-term solution would be the market not buying goods at scalped prices where the decision needs to be consumer-side to completely get rid of it.

The tie-in was the marketing. The SNES was marketed as a 16-bit system whereas the N64 (or Nintendo 64) was marketed as a 64-bit system, which was also used to suggest a superiority to the ps1.

It was a similarity in that both had "Nintendo" in their core names (whereas some of the spinoffs/handhelds only had Nintendo in their full names)

Seeing as the government can't even manage to pass anti-price gouging laws for essentials like food and gas, though, I don't think we should hold our breath for Playstations and Taylor Swift tickets. Forcibly capping markup like that can also be a bit problematic in cases where markups are typically very high (even cheap clothing, for example, is often marked up 10-fold or more), and while such high default markups can easily be argued to be a bad thing overall, they're so entrenched in the current state of the economy that pulling the rug out from under them would create a substantial mess.

I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the N64! As a kid Nintendo was best thing but as I got older, I went to Playstation. I wish Mario were on other consoles LOL
Just get a Switch then, especially with the current decline of third party and console specific AAA games elsewhere.

I'd say that a lack of a marketable gimmick (the tablet just didn't do it for most people) and almost unarguably the single worst games library of any Nintendo console other than the Virtual Boy probably did a lot more to kill the WiiU than consumer confusion.
Of course it "failed" compared to the Wii. More than half the people who bought Wiis didn't even know it could play games besides Wii Sports. They would all say "We have a Wii already"
