If NASA want to train astronauts to survive in a hostile environment with no atmosphere, they should get them to spend a week in Croydon.

That too would only be ok if they brought them back.

Assuming they weren't knifed first.

Nah, Mars is a waste tbh. It would be more beneficial to terraform Venus. It would take roughly the same amount of time and more beneficial.

We can't handle earth.

The whole "we need to terraform mars and start a colony there because we have limited time due to climate change" is so obviously self defeating that the only reason people don't realize is because the message has been very carefully relayed to you to reduce interest in renewable energy techology and fossil fuel reduction.

It's a seven month journey each way, so the amount of food and water required, and air to breath would be tremendous.

No, I would rather have a permanent lunar base and observatory first. Preferably an international one with a rotating staff of scientists and engineers to mitigate the physical degradation caused by extended time in low G.

Who said anything about terraforming?

I would just like to know we have the ability to get there and back safely. To the surface.

Also, the space vessel would be the size of a camper van and shared by maybe 5 people.
After 7 months, for a few days or a week they get the chance to walk outside in a place that looks like the Sahara desert if it was on Baffin Island, then stay inside that van for another 7 months as it returns to Earth.
Someone who wants to experience that is crazy, and will be crazy once it's over.

Because its literally the first step in not being a bunch of mud encrusted hominids who are stuck on a single planet.

I think traveling to planet doesn't imply you can thereafter travel to further planets.

Nope.

If anything, i'd prefer a space station in orbit at Mars. Astronauts would be sent to Mars for further observation & reseach of the Mars surface and act as a midway station for further research of planets beyond Mars.

The whole one way trip thing is not what i would want for anybody.
