This is why I held my last save until some of my priorities were safe, though I missed the ping so I was only getting two anyway.

First 2-3 minutes should be good until the next rule change, but yeah if there's another overpowered H1 like the other day it could certainly get much tighter. Another day topping 60 saves today, hrm.

GMUN: I don't think I mentioned this yet but I love the OO posting and I doubly love it since it reminds me of one of my personal favourite times on the board: posting Legend of the Galactic Heroes screencaps in response to posts (usually VI "democracy" posts, lol) in SMFAS a few years back. Much like OO there was really a screencap for everything...

But yeah I always get a bigger smile on my face when I see them than I probably should. And like, today's is just so perfect too! lol

oh yeah a no-stats day but I haven't compiled my own stats yet and also don't want to post another list since yesterday's was a list...

So in lieu of that I was thinking of something I posted in the nominations topic and now that we're halfway through, could be worth revisiting: best placements (prior to this contest) in the newstats era for playable characters of the mainline games:

(colour-coding was: green = achieved or tied for best placement in last year's contest; red = won the contest in the oldstats era)

Still plenty of characters left so more new PB opportunities available, though there's lots of top 10 finishes for these folks in the 10+ contests of the newstats era so going to be tough. A few other notes:

-Rosa's gotten out of "N/A" territory though only 2nd lowest next to Palom, unfortunately (gone too soon!)

-Top 30 for Quistis is the mark to aim for!!

-Eiko a few days away from her personal best

-BASCH LIVES! THE Basch fon Ronsenberg is not only in newstats PB territory, but is already at his 2nd best performance (on a % basis) ever next to 6/75 in contest XI. From a "raw placement" perspective he had finishes of 42nd, 41st and 39th in a 75-character field so those are the new spots to aim for

....not much else to comment on but that's the downside of just making these tables based on playable characters I guess (can't hype up Cindy more than I already have).

Worth also noting that Ifrit's 3 days away from passing Bahamut's PB (44th), at which point Ifrit's next goals would be topping the Doomtrain's current run and its 2nd best (37th). A whole lot of days to go before he can claim the mantle of most successful summon run in SMFFFC history, though!

To answer your question, that would be uh, 42 more days of survival just to tie Doomtrain's 3rd place finish, the only way to top that is making the finals. So, good luck with all that!

Oh neat, I didn't realize Mog's Top 10 appearance was in the old era. I also assume I helped to get him to that 7th and plain forgot. But also that was Kefka's 2nd place year, so maybe I was too busy to give that much help.

But also that's hilarious he's the second highest VI party member in new era.

I guess I unconsciously knew VI hadn't won a championship in the New Era, but it didn't really hit me that it was so until I saw that chart.

Kefka, he's just not playable.

I'm not sure what caused Basch's run in Contest XI; I don't even think I was a big part of that success, at least I don't much recall it. Considering Tidus, Auron and Yuna were all in the top 10 that year I highly doubt I even voted for him any back then. XII has had a lot of its bigger supporters phased out in the years, I feel like Harmonica was a big supporter of the game but he's been gone for ages I think.

Yeah, VI's success isn't great in new era, but it looks worse there because Kefka's been the best performer and is absent.

Yeah I really should've included him but then I would've gotten the "why isn't this person why isn't that person".... also there's too many VI characters as is, lol.

I'll update it to include some of the more notable NPCs for a future non-stats days, maybe closer to the top 20 when the end's a little more in sight...

That is an interesting outlier. Looking at FF12's success around that timeframe:
-Balthier wins VIII
-IX looks like a post-victory lull (best placement was Dr. Cid in 20th?)
-X had Dr. Cid finish 9th
-XI had Basch in 6th
-XII was the Ashe finals
-XIII well, we don't talk about contest XIII (but FF12 fell off a cliff there again, it looks like - Balthier 20th and Ashe 39th were top two)

XI also looks like 2nd best FF12 finish was Balthier down in 31st place so it got me thinking that maybe there was an FF12 voting block and they all ended up behind the last one standing? you know, kind of like nowadays with FF9 and FFT ;)

How are you going to handle XVI on that? Just count Clive and Joshua or count all the party members even though they aren't actually playable?

I just knew Alphinaud will go out the week where I'm sick and tend to sleep through the alarm. I just hope someone will do me a favor and throw a save or two his way but apparently snipers like Martin and Vis want to snipe him out. So I decide to actively snipe their favorites out. If they don't want to do me some favor, I'll do exactly that back to them.

I know characters get sniped out all the time but I'm sick and I'm moody and I choose pettiness.

Andy, please keep our trading for now. I'll let you know who to save soon when I'm less pissed.

Dr. Cid was sort of a standalone entity from the rest of the cast, for sure; for a long while, I'm pretty sure he was heavily backed by FFD in some capacity at least. There was a group of people pushing him for a while, can't quite remember anyone else involved with it, but they either tired of it or left since he can barely make the contests these days and when he does it's a little sad.

If you're adding Tactics and XIV, you might as well add II since every playable character has made it in by now. I and III are weird and they're missing most of their cast anyway, so I think it's fine to leave them out.

This is categorically false. Dr. Cid best Cid in the franchise (although XVI Cid is making a strong case to dethrone him).

I know it's not personal. Actually, I really like you two. The reason I picked you two among others sniper is because days ago when I was 90 minutes late to the round, Martin, you said that you had everyone except Alphinaud lined up to save and, Vis, you said that Alphinaud would be a good boot and that kinda pissed me off.

It's kinda hard trying to save a character from a game almost noone even planned to play. Really nobody even cared enough to give a stray vote his way and I'm not talented enough to promote him like GMUN promoting Layle so people will give him some save from time to time.

That being said, I shouldn't put you two in a spot where you have to apologize to me and I apologize for making such a scene.

Now that I don't have to put all my saves into my main, I will try to take a snipe crown from you two though. So at least you have that against you.

Dr Cid is ok, I think he's a bit overrated for sticking out in such a bland set of NPCs. Though he's not half as overrated as his son.

Dr. Cid is great for the "pound-for-pound" factor, maximum greatness in minimal appearance time, doesnt he literally only show up in like, 2 or 3 cutscene outside his fights? I'd put him top 2 with Cissnei (literally in like 4 or 5 scenes in the game).

FFXVI spoilers so beware: I'd probably put Benedikta in 3rd, she was so great with what little time we had with her, though I may be overrating/oversimping there...
