I ask because you mentioned ATB as a negative; FFX stands out from the rest of the core franchise by ditching ATB entirely for 'true' turn-based. It's actually quite a good combat setup; you can take all the time you want to plan an attack, and the attack turn order is mapped out for you via HUD. You're also free to swap party members in and out seamlessly mid-fight (pretty sure it doesn't even take up a turn action to do so). Even though FFX should technically feel slower-paced due to ditching ATB, I always felt its combat was very smooth and fast-paced, at least for turn-based. FFX-2 on the other hand does bring back ATB. However, I remember praising X-2 for having some of the most fun combat in the franchise (though I can't quite articulate why, it's been almost 20 years since I played it lol).
