Depends on the industry and job most likely. But I can't think of any off the top of my head that ask for this all the time.

i think a lot of employers overestimate the clout that seeing their name on a resume will grant people who work there, and so they try to demand high and pay low so that transitional employees think they're the ones winning.

I live in an area like that. Just looking at Indeed and I see Manager needed, bachelors in business required. 19 dollars an hour when Chipotle is paying people in my area 22 dollars an hour.
