99% of the games he played throughout his childhood were really awful THQ licensed cartoon games. I'm not that much older than him but I distinctly remember those games having horrible reputations and most people in my age groups avoiding them like the plague to the point where THQ had an early/mid 00s reputation like LJN did in the 80s and 90s.

To be fair he deserves a lot of respect for having such a massively successful gaming channel while not really having any discernible taste or interest in games. He also finessed G4 out of God knows how much money for them to license his old content when they did the reboot.
