The few obvious things are the massive sanctions against it and the funding of their war in Ukraine. Their currency, the Ruble, was hard crashing when the war started. Putin propped it up by using their Federal Reserves. That money seems to have run out though. Oh and Russia imposed a naval blockade in the Black Sea, but it's Ukraine that's enforcing it. Good luck transporting goods in and out of the ports on the Black Sea when no one will insure your ships. Not only are a lot of their citizens dying from this war, COVID is still happening and I guarantee they cover up those deaths tremendously. Not to mention all lost since the beginning of the pandemic. Imagine if we just lost a million to a virus, then we just started a war and sent the healthy ones left to fight. I believe the first time there was talks about Russias economy collapsing was when the Ruble tanked. The government stepped in and used its own money to artificially inflate the currency to prevent a collapse. I think the 2nd time was when the EU decided to cut imports from Russia. It was a game of chicken at the time because the EU was struggling to make the change before winter. Lucky for the EU, they had a mild winter so it wasnt as devastating as expected. You can see that on the chart above. That collapse stopped because India and China, mostly India, stepped in to buy a massive amount of cheap oil to sell as a profit. That is also seen in the chart above. This combined with the federal funding help prevent a collapse. Now Russia themselves have reduced exports of oil. There can be many reasons for this but my theory is that they simply dont have the workers to keep up with demand because of the war. You can see this on the chart too as their oil exports decline.
