ARE they though? There was an initial breaking in period I'd more chalk up to more mod presence because of a massively controversial and disliked change funneled more users here. Even then I wouldn't say the 261s were modded any more frequently then the CE users. Hyena is just Hyena.

The only liabilities that are tangible were anything regarding covid misinformation (from the outbreak to vaccines) and political misinformation which was a major contributor to 1/6.

Even with mods on their side, even with the advantage of being untethered from any facts - this is one format that doesn't massively favor right wing misinformation if the "other side" are vigilant.

We can post links and quotes to counter misinformation talking points, and we can pull out segments of a gish gallop to address individually, or go point by point. We can also ignore tangents and stay on topic.

In other words, without total control of a debate or discussion format, the far right struggle to push their misinformation and poison the well effectively.

Given this site's userbase, it was for the best. Politics just are not a topic the GameFAQs userbase has the world view and maturity level to legitimately discuss. And the site's staff was historically atrocious and inconsistent in handling moderations on that board. Way too many high level accounts got away with way too much shit on there.

It was a mix of both right wing (and sometimes not even right wing but just pure trying to trigger a reaction from whoever) accounts and high level, left wing shitposting accounts. The latter made up the majority of the mass trolling that went on in that board.

Now those people will claim 'no no no no it was MAGA/Trumpers!' to try to cover their own asses, but anyone who visited that board even semi-regularly that didn't fall into that cultist mentality knows that's a crock of shit.

The fact that you had a community assemble that developed a cult like mentality around their posting habits on a politics board on GameFAQs of all places writes its own punchline.

When you have people with that unhealthy of a mindset willing to make something like that their hill to die on, it was for the best to just end that shit. Of course some of them will refuse to move on because they made that community their whole identity (and possibly dare I say - their life), but it was ultimately the right call to make.
