That's such an exaggerated tweet lol

"Disney+ just reported it's biggest subscribers lost ever in history!"

The service isn't even 4 years old yet. Hitting a point where subscribers fall off was inevitable.

We have the bundle with Hulu, ESPN+ and Disney+. My kids watch a lot of Disney+ but I don't watch anything on Hulu or ESPN (might change if they have college football on there, idk if they do or not). My wife uses Hulu a little bit honestly since I hooked up an antenna we mostly watch stuff over the air. I think we pay less than $30/month for all of our streaming subs which is way better than our previous satellite bill of $150/month.

For what it's worth D+ actually had a much better Q2 in 2023 compared to Q2 2022. They only lost $500 million dollars instead of a billion.

Admittedly I'm saying this only with the benefit of hindsight, but Disney was really banking hard on Star Wars and the MCU to hold a candle to other streaming services in terms of fresh content to keep people subscribed.

I don't know how any of these streaming services maintain their count. I run out of stuff to watch and cycle between 3 of them.
I got a deal through my phone service that gives me Netflix, AppleTV, Discovery+, and HBO on another service because it isn't included on Discovery in Canada, for 20 bucks a month, plus we have Prime so Prime Video comes with that. The only thing I generally pay for is Disney+ and Paramount+ that's for IASIP, Simpsons, South Park, Futurama, Marvel, Star Wars, Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill.

Yes, but in the states it all ends up on Hulu, in Canada we get it on D+

The streaming business model feels unsustainable IMO

Like the more competition there is in this space, the worse the perceived value of each individual service will be because the stuff people want to watch will be spread too thin between services.

And it's not like they're going to decrease their pricing to make up for the growing lack of content

Can they please just release their shit on Blu-ray already? Theres money to be made there. Like, keep it exclusive on Disney+ for a year and then put it on disc. I hate having access to some stuff I really like only through a streaming service (essentially just renting it).

wtf is blu-ray gramps

It was sustainable back when it was just Netflix and Hulu. But all of the major companies decided that they each wanted their own service. So now we have this shit show.

The whole reason streaming exploded the way it did was because of how affordable it was compared to cable. But now that's no longer true if you have a handful of shows you like on each service. With the Disney/Hulu/ESPN bundle, it costs $98.42/month to sign up for all 10 of the major streaming services. That's no longer cheaper than cable.

I feel that once these streaming services lose their ability to pull people in with their originals, things will start shifting again. That's likely years and years away though

Um, that's definitely still cheaper then cable. It's not less than very basic cable but then you'd have to add in HBO, Showtime, etc to get the same programs you get via streaming.

It depends on the provider. DirecTV costs more still, but Spectrum is cheaper

Disney+ has yet to make a single dime. The only streaming service that isn't hemorrhaging millions upon millions of dollars a month is Netflix.
Hulu is now also profitable as of a year or so ago.

Well, that's exactly why they won't. They want you to keep paying for your subscription for the privilege of rewatching their exclusive content. It's not just Disney+ either, Netflix, Amazon, etc. content rarely comes out on disc, if ever. I'm still waiting on those Altered Carbon and Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance sets.
