agreed it has some decent atmosphere generated jumpscares but there is so few enemies most of the time which is fine it works for what the game is going for

but well it does make the horror feel sparse

then you get to that house and it suddenly becomes silent hill

then you get to that fucking baby and *shudders*

seriously when creepy giggling dolls is the breather moment youve made some good horror

Definitely was very creepy and intense my first playthrough that section, as well as the 2nd and 3rd time playing it. By the 5th playthrough it kinda becomes an annoying chore of a section to keep having to replay through. You know where that baby will first appear and where exactly you need to go in the game to avoid the creature and get the puzzle pieces needed to escape that place.

Though that first playthrough is definitely a memorable experience. I'm not big on playing straight up horror games like the Amnesia series as I don't like to get scared frequently while playing. That section of RE8 got a few scares out of me and kept me right at the edge of my seat trying to get through that part as quickly as possible.

I have never 180 turned in a resident evil game faster than when that shit first peaked around the corner, lmfao.

I still havent beaten this part

They made that part even creepier in the DLC, assuming you have a fear of Weeping Angel-type creatures.

Those mannequins you have to keep an eye on, and if not they'll move towards you and insta-kill you from behind? Yeah that whole long section in the house in the DLC was pretty creepy as well. Maybe not as much as the baby section in the main game.

Yeah, I dread that type of mechanic because it gives me the super creeps. Every time I play an indie horror game that pulls that I go "oh fuck no", and now it was in a AAA release, lol.

Try that shit in VR... Even though I had already played through RE8 three times normally by then, I dreaded that part in my VR playthrough...

I like how used the area in both the game and the DLC and managed to make it terrifying both times.

Still not P.T, but very scary.

I really liked the build up to it. You knew right from the start of that area that some fucked up shit was about to go down and the only thing you could do is press on

Yeah, it was a big letdown and for sure my least favorite area.
Think I'd rank them:
Castle Dimitrescu
The village
Dollhouse
Swamp
Stronghold

That stronghold where all those lycans pop up. I usually just camp out at the top of the stairs where the exit out is and just wait there. Gunning down the lycans as they come up the stairs. If the lycans start to overwhelm me, then I grab onto the pulley nearby that's attached to the rope and glide away from the horde to the other side of the room and head up top of the other stairs and kill the lycans coming up.

Taking away my arsenal really made it a true horror experience.

Running from a giant baby monster and escaping via elevator?

... Reminds me of Clock Tower.

finished the game over all pretty good but it drops hard after the swamp

game just becomes loaded with padding and the monsters dont evne feel like they belong to RE anymore

also i find it amusing they gave ethan a personality int his game then kill him off
