Not only did Peter deservedly besmirch Eddie's reputation, he also took his girlfriend. If you go back and watch the beginning of Peter/Gwen's date, a down on his luck Eddie, sees them walking down the street together. So now Peter's ruined his career and taken his girl. It is not beyond comprehension to understand why Eddie would ask God to kill Peter. He now has nothing and Peter is the reason for that.
