Once I went there and found out how short the trial was, and work would pay for it, I was hoping to be selected.

But I also had that sense of guilt for my coworker.

I got summoned twice I believe. First was a child molestation case where I got out of it because I showed bias (2012 or 2013 I think), the other (IIRC 2016 or 2017) was for a car accident where my group was brought to a courtroom but they filled the seats before they got to me.

That's about it. County courthouse is like 15 minutes out so it's not the worst to go to it but it's also not in the nicest area (though there's much worse in this part of NJ)

It would suck so bad if I got selected to be on a jury of a high-profile case. You know, the ones where they have you sequestered. Your phone is confiscated, cant watch the news, confined to your hotel room, and only watch movies that the court approves. All in an effort to not influence your decision and it could go on for weeks.

That rarely happens. Even murder trial jurors can go home.

Im talking about the kind of high-profile trials that have nationwide attention. The kind that the court is afraid that jurors will be intimidated. The kind of attention that cities might go up in flames if the person is found guilty or not.

I wonder how the Trump trials are going to go if a jury is used. Theres a good chance they are gonna be sequestered for their protection.

You're actually not allowed to do any research on any case you get assigned to anyway.

I mean that situation you mentioned takes it up a notch, but it's for your safety.

I've been summoned once and got kicked during voir dire by defense attorney.

Got summoned again a couple weeks ago. Was disappointed that I didn't get to serve.

I'm a lawyer in the county, though, so my likelihood of ever getting seated is probably pretty remote.

I've been sent the letter quite a few times but haven't ever been picked. I've gotten as far as being questioned by the judge/lawyer but i have a natural bias towards professionals so they excused me. I told them I'd take a cop's opinion on the law over a stranger the same way I'd take a recipe from a chef over the stranger.

Most cops don't know the actual laws.

One positive aspect to having a criminal record (I assume) is that I shouldnt be called for jury duty.

I have been summoned several times. My employer gives me a letter that excuses me from it every time. My previous employer would even mail it off for me. Just hand them the summons and they'd take care of it.
