Part of the reason he is the way he is was because he believed he had the recessive genes therefore being the complete lesser version of BB. Mantis should have been like "Actually dude you got all the good stuff and you're prolly a better solider than BB himself so you really got nothing to prove". Crisis averted? --- Don't like it? Also, I don't remember if it was confirmed or anything, but I don't think the idea is that Liquid actually got the dominate genes, it's that the recessive genes were actually the superior ones. No they separated the genes and took the ones that would make a good solider and gave them to liquid and solid got what was left over. And that's why ocelot says the inferior one won.
