Watched the first episode. I like it! I like it better than I thought I would. 8 episodes an hour each so theres a lot of exposition and stuff cut out to pack it all in. They changed quite a bit but I think its fine. I def think they should have shown how much of a bastard Axehand Morgan is. I hope they do a better job building up the villains as total bastards.

As somebody who has been watching the anime... And I mean literally ALL of the anime (I just finished Punk Hazard, or am very near the end), I watched episode one and REALLY enjoyed it. I don't mind the changes at all, I think they help make it more digestible to a casual audience. The cast is absolutely nailing it, every role has felt like the actor really was into the character. I hope it continues like this.

Yeah I totally agree with you. My only complaint about the changes so far is I dont need Zoro to just beat up random goons. I need him to fight his own henchman boss. But aside from that yeah. The cast is awesome.

Three episodes in and I am really liking it. It's the same story with many details rearranged which is probably the best way to do it.

I can't believe Netflix screwed up two easy adaptations (Death Note and Cowboy Bebop) yet somehow didn't screw this up.

Given how much it is adapting in these eight episodes I was surprised the pacing wasn't super fast. I didn't find it too slow ether.

I was skeptical of Shanks too but he looks better here and his acting is great.

My favorite scene was Zoro versus Mr. 7 and I love that they added that in since it was just some off screen bit that Zoro's talked about in the past. Just a bit odd that they claimed Zoro saved the little girl in the bar.

In the manga, she was being attacked by a dog, and rescued by Zoro. In this case, if Zoro didn't do anything, she'd be fine but he seemed to antagonize Helmeppo himself. I don't mind it, just thought it was a bit off. I'm almost done with teh episode but I need a nap.

Still enjoyable. Zoro is definitely badass and has great choreography which is what I hoped for.

It was funny as as we had for the original number 7 is a bad doodle and they still translated him well into live action.

The show is making changes but none that completely alter the story. Like Kuro isn't alone working for Kaya. Now other members of the black Cat Pirates are also working on her staff and in on his plot.

And there is how they integrated Koby's side story into the actual main plot. Where I finished (episode three) you have a huge change of Koby meeting Usopp.

I just finished the Baratie episode. Don't have time to watch more at the moment.

It's pretty good. Wouldn't say great, and I think some of the things needed to be toned down a bit to work better in live action and just seemed a bit dumb to see on screen at times. But it's not horrifically bad like the other Netflix adaptations.

Also, Luffy's actor is nailing it.

I do think this paid off, at the end of the episode, since it makes his decision to stay behind more impactful. It also helps the scene, since you get Luffy's "are you sure?" and Koby gets to state his intent there and have an impactful moment. I think it worked for the tone the show was going for.

Plus having him "save" the crew from Helmeppo still gave him a heroic moment. Even if the Straw Hats were never in any danger from that loser.

Also, no spoilers, but I kinda can't get over how good the casting is. Every named character feels like the actors enjoyed playing the part, especially the main crew. Luffy and Nami especially feel like the actors are enjoying playing the roles so much.

Haven't started it yet. I think the reason I like the anime is that it really doesn't take itself seriously. That's like the only reason why it works for me. I'm worried that the live adaptation will attempt to be too profound. I'm not talking about tone, as there are like heavy moments in the anime. But the anime is constructed in a way that tells the audience "this is not a serious piece of literature, have fun with it".

Don't worry, the live action absolutely takes this approach, as well. I was pleasantly surprised.

Drum Island is about as long as Arlong Park and Alabasta is like double that though, and they'd still need to cover Reverse Mountain-Little Garden. We'd need like 12 or so episodes

They covered nearly 100 chapters in eight episodes. There was a bit of triming here and there (Don Kreig, DJango) but it mostly accomplished telling all of East Blue. The whole Baroque Works saga is about a hundred and twenty chapters. With the same type of triming I would say it could fit in a ten episode season. So that's what I'm hoping for. Ten episodes is what they wanted for season one and if the show is a success maybe now they get it.

Note when I say Baroque Works ark I mean starting with Laboon and ending with them leaving Alabasta. That's about 120 chapters. I was thinking it was twice as long as East Blue but really it wasn't.

Hypothetically if they use the same pace as season one of the live action series I could see up until the end of Alabasta covered in one ten episode season. Before looking at the chapter count I thought it would need two seasons.

To be fair, the anime stretched out the whole Baroque Works arc to an obscene degree. In the manga it goes a lot quicker.

I dont think it would be too hard
1 Laboon/ Reverse Mountain
1 Whiskey Peak
1 Little Garden
1 Drum island
4 Alabasta

but even 4 for Alabasta seems long.

But yeah the manga and anime can be severely cut down and not lose much.
