You know that isn't true. The PC is absolutely considered a different type of platform to an extremely large number of consumers.

When you say something is an "exclusive," my brain immediately jumps to "What is ONLY on PS5 that could be so big?" I had no idea what you were talking about. I actually went out googling what games were launching for PS5 that could be so impactful and came up empty before accepting you were either talking nonsense or I had lost something in translation.

You and your "extremely large number of consumers" need to wise up to the fact that ever since non-Nintendo games have widely gone multi-platform, the divide between PC and console virtually doesn't exist.

Launch Skyrim was a very exciting game that promised so much and delivered in essence a shared world in which millions of people could jabber about the cool things they found and did. it was hype to hear about Blackreach or brag about how many dragons you killed, and the world seemed imaginative and endless. Then slowly people beat the game and began to notice the complete lack of depth in the combat, the repetitiveness of the dungeons and fights, how they actually just didn't care about almost any of the characters or the plot, and the veneer of the game wore off

I don't have too much faith from those reviews that Starfield is addressing the issues I had with Skyrim or that it will genuinely hold up

I feel like we can't already know that. Like was Skyrim's initial reception really that good? I remember a ton of fans saying Oblivion was better when it first came out. Obviously it's become beloved now but that's 100% due to the mod scene. People don't even consider base Skyrim when talking about it.

Skyrim got insanely good reviews at launch and won a bunch of GotY awards.

Casual gamers still fucking love Skyrim.

Welp, I started playing Bloodborne for the first time recently and I'm way too into that right now. But excited to get around to this when I have the time! Reviews are mostly where I expected them

TotK is less fresh/new than BotW was, because it's heavily based on BotW. Baldur's Gate 3 has just as high review scores and is also a new experience to a lot of people (even if the genre has been around for a while). That gives it the edge.

But it's also one of the best games of all time and yet TotK is better in pretty much every way. I definitely wouldn't count it out just because BG3 is "fresher" or whatever.

This is actually getting further away with how many bad PC ports of console games have released recently.

as far as I can find pc had a majority, but they may have been counting mobile sales as part of W10 bedrock. Regardless, even if only a quarter of minecraft players were pc, that's still more people than most other games

It's also a game that runs on a toaster. BG3 isn't the most intensive game, but how many of the Minecraft PC players can run it?

The average person has a stronger phone than they have a PC.

All I'm gonna say is I got pushback from saying BG3 would beat BotW for GotY by someone named Waluigi, and azuarc got pushback on PC gaming from someone who publicly hates it.

This is actually getting further away with how many bad PC ports of console games have released recently.

PC numbers have been increasing over time - dramatically so over the last decade, even in Japan where there has historically been a legitimate stigma that it's just for perverts and otaku so uh, not true. (Hilariously I've seen the PC surge in Japan seriously attributed to vTubers which would be the funniest way possible for PC to break into the mainstream there, but I'm not complaining!)

When people say "GotY" with no specific qualifiers, are they referring to TGA's GotY award? Because this post is very obviously not referring to GameFAQs' GotY.

It's amazing that PC has seen any increased market share whatsoever with how overpriced GPUs were for a while (thanks, cryptobros). I expect it to become somewhat more popular as prices normalize.

The last few quarters have seen the lowest GPU same in a decade, so I guess that's slowing down a bit

That's definitely true but also you'd have to be either a completely mindless corporate slave or have been hit with some really unfortunate timing to buy a new-gen GPU right now. These last two generations have been blatantly horrible deals.

I built this PC to be future proof but I didn't really expect it to last this long

My 980 is probably not up to the task but I'm sure I'll play this game years from now whenever I get a Steam Deck (or maybe Steam Deck 2 by then)

Oh wait 2500k was my last comp, I'm on a 7600k rn. Still over 6 years old.

980 looks like it could do the game on low, prob not 60fps though

Sounds like it runs quite poorly on Steam Deck currently, but it could get patched to run better (and a Steam Deck 2 should handle it well, of course).

Most newly released AAA games release poorly on Steam Deck. It's a low priority for them to optimize games for it, but a lot of times they'll patch it to make them work later.

Decided to play it yesterday evening and all day today to see whether I could get invested in the plot. Was trying to just focus on the main missions and only doing sidequests that sound interesting and I was really struggling to care (doesn't help that all the main story companions except the robot are terrible), but then I did a crime while trying to do a sidequest which unlocked a whole chain of space pirate quests which I found a lot more interesting, so I'm going to at least see what the culmination of that is.

Though, I dunno, some of the solutions to problems feel really lazy. The last mission I just did had me board a luxury space liner during a charity gala. I had two objectives and one was to steal a priceless award. I was expecting some Hitman-style hijinks, but you literally speak to the woman in charge of the statue who says it's in the safe, you speak to the purser who says you need a card to access the safe and then talk to the first lady again and just ask her for the card. Like, I had to use my pursuade skill, but the conversation basically went:

'I need your card'
'No'
'Nah, do it though'
'Okay, I guess'

She even brags about how she's looked after the award for the last seven years and all the guests comment on how she dotes on the award like a child and you just talk her into giving it up for no reason.
