First off.

"A person may employ deadly force against another, if the person reasonably believes that force is necessary to protect a third-person or one's self from imminent death or great bodily harm, without incurring civil liability for injury to the other. Clark v. Ziedonis, 513 F.2d 79 (1975)."

Civil suits have a much lower threshold and mean nothing because you can pursue a civil suit even when the person was 100% innocent or the person they're suing for was 100% guilty.

It's not a beyond a reasonable doubt thing. It's basically a "was there a chance this is possible".

Third, we're not discussing the civil suit here no matter what opinion you have towards it.

They don't have a leg to stand on. As soon as footage of Kyle retreating before being assaulted gets shown, it's all over. He's a stupid kid, but the law is clear on the situation. Especially with no evidence of provoking anyone.

I'm still appalled at the sacred reverence we have carved out for gun rights - despite the primary function of all legal guns being the expedient termination of biological life. Argue about vehicle deaths all they want, my car allows transportation and only kills when used wrong or in unfortunate accidents. When a gun is used properly for its primary function it is killing a living creature.

Why do we have so many special carve outs and rights for guns? Why are there the kinds of workarounds that allowed an irresponsible minor (whether you believe he killed justifiably in self defense or not) to get a semi auto assault rifle across state lines to use in the way he did that facilitated the unfortunate events that lead to multiple deaths and injuries that night.

It doesn't make sense from a responsible gun owners perspective.

The extent to which he is being "protected" is that he was given money for a lawyer by conservatives. Everybody is entitled to a lawyer and they are entitled fo choose their own lawyer. This is a goos thing, although the current system obviously disproportionately benefits the wealthy. I think it's kind of stupid to donate money to some idiot kid running around a protest with a gun regardless of legality, but that does not mean he's receiving some sort of extrajudicial protection from greater powers. He was put on trial. He had a decent lawyer. The prosecution had a bad case. He was found not guilty.

If you want to criticize the Wisconsin legislature for their lax gun laws or self-defense statutes, that's fine. If you want to criticize conservatives for desperately clinging to their firearms like feral animals in the face of daily tragedies, that's fine. That doesn't mean you should seek to undermine critical legal infrastructure and systems to convict someone who very obviously had special legal protections in Wisconsin as granted to anybody in his situation, white supremacist or not.

You people have such ridiculous brain rot from this culture war that you've convinced yourself of enemies you don't even have. I am more staunchly liberal than most users on this board. And apparently more well-read, since I understand the critical importance of consistency and equality in a legal system beyond it's viability as a tool with which to attack Republicans.

I have a bottle of fine win in my fridge for when Trump is convicted of his crimes. When his trials start you will find me in those topics gleefully extolling the many reasons why he's obviously guilty. I know the AR 15 Kyle used is a semi auto, and only made to look like military grade automatic rifles - and may or may not be technically an assault rifle depending on who you ask... Yeah yeah whatever.

That only adds to my point. This was not a personal or home defense weapon like a pistol or shotgun, or a hunting rifle that Rittenhouse was straw purchasing across state lines... This is a mass shooting device.

He's hanging out with people who want to prop him up as a political symbol and have the money to do so, he doesn't deal with non-fascists as much, and non-fascists are less likely to attack fascists than the other way around anyway.
