He's a very funny guy and I love him in a lot of stuff, but he doesn't have a ton of range and I feel like he's in basically every single thing I watch for the last like 5 years

I tried looking at his filmography and like he's in a lot but not an insane amount so idk why it just feels like he's so prevalent

honestly it just feels sort of immersion breaking sometime because even in voice roles, he always just seems like Jason Mantzoukas rather than the character he's playing

also I know nobody asked, just sort of crossed my mind

I love the heynong man but I do agree his voice acting roles can be a little off putting. In Invincible he's playing a hotshot early 20s bomb superhero and it's a little immersion breaking his character sounds like a 50 year old man.

I think this topic overrates this guy's popularity by a fair margin. He's not famous enough for people to have unpopular opinions about!

But yeah, he's a one-trick pony for me.

kevin hart also just seems like a douche though

i do get feeling like jason mantzoukas was everywhere for a while, but i thought that had died down

maybe its just that i stopped listening to as many podcasts

he basically does play the same character every time I see him (like Tracy Morgan) but its effective I guess

I dunno he popped up in Twisted Metal for an episode and was hilarious in it.

that was actually what inspired this topic

he was funny I guess but he was definitely just playing the same character he plays in basically every other thing, only a little more violent, and I think it kinda took away from the immersion a bit (not that Twisted Metal is a show that takes itself seriously but at least the other recognizable actors feel like characters and not just themselves)

if you watch much western media you've probably seen him or heard his voice in something by now

Some actors are just so distinctive in their own mannerisms, appearance and voice that they simply can't create versatility. I enjoy Mantzoukas in most everything in which he appears. He's similar to Danny Trejo. I get the theory of oversaturation and sameness in everything, but that sameness almost always works, so it doesn't bother me.

While he is in a lot of things, it doesn't feel like he is in EVERYTHING and I can't think of instances where he dominates as a guest role.

Like this might be because I've read the comics but he doesn't break my understanding of Rex Splode. Rex sucks. That's a good cast, he's doing a great job at it. Besides that I think the biggest things I've seen him in are The Good Place and Brooklyn 99 which have such strong casts there's just no way he can steal too much spotlight.

Oh he was also in Close Enough aka Regular Show for adults. Absolutely perfect use of him

I remember Rafi being a bit overused in The League but otherwise I think he's a fun actor to see pop up.
