Like, what are the implications here? If I had an involuntary transformation where I would turn into a bloodthirsty beast that had an impulsive need to kill or pass on its curse, I would want to transform into something harmless -- like a rabbit. Lock me in the laundry room overnight on nights of the full moon and ignore the sound of my bunny claws pawing at the door. (Also, leave me a pair of clothes to change into when I become human again.)

Is it something we can voluntarily transform into on a whim? Or is it a sentence, like, "You're gonna be stuck as a were-lion the rest of your life"? Either way, I'll be a basic bitch and go with a werewolf transformation. I've had at least three dreams about being one and another dream which referenced that ability.

Pidgeon. They can fly, eat leftovers, and humans don't tend to fuck with them.

Werebat. When I'm transformed, I can hide in caves during the day and at night, I will be the stuff of legend, but that's all I'll be. Anyone claiming to see a giant bat at night will be written off as cracked and nobody will pay attention to it but the tabloids.

Plus, it will be cool to have sonar.

I was very tempted to say wereskunk, because those would be the most powerful farts on the planet. Even other were-creatures would steer clear.

Do we lose control and give in to instinct while transformed? I wanna say bird so I could fly, but if a bird brain is calling the shots, I don't wanna wake up naked on a telephone pole or something annoying like that.

Then again, I can't imagine the wings would actually be functional if you were a were-something and not an actual mythical flying horse. Yeah, werewolf is a good call.

This does remind me of the Switchers Trilogy I read as a kid where the protagonist was a shapeshifter. The trick was that you had to pick a form to stay in when you turned fifteen; after that, you'd just permanently be that thing.

In the second book, the antagonist found kind of a funny loophole: instead of an animal, he shapeshifted into a vampire.
