Americans watch sports for the commercials.

It's part of why non american sports are deemed boring. Their own would be if they played as long interrupted I bet.

It's not much different, tbh. In most cases, the players don't originate in the city, let alone the country they represent. It's just who can afford to stack their deck through buying and/or trading.
