Because everyone's dog is the sweetest dog until they flip out and kill someone.

No one would keep a dog that attacked their family.

The owners of pitbulls bear a heavy responsibility for the vicious actions of their dogs.

But 'it's the owner's fault' is not a reason not to ban ownership of these dogs. It's basically the 'gun control is unjustified because guns don't kill people, people do' argument.

Except that pitbulls are like guns that can bust out of their gun safe and kill people all by themselves.

People should be required to get a license to own a big dog. I've raised plenty of big dogs and without proper training they can become a menace to everything around them.

Do not get a big dog unless you are ready to spend HOURS of every single day exercising them and training them and socializing them.

I can't count the amount of times someone gives up their dog because they didn't know how much of a responsibility it would be. It breaks the dogs heart every time and they don't understand why their beloved owner is abandoning them.

They should be investigated mentally. For them to make an owner feel totally safe for years before they randomly snap almost looks as some sort of Alzheimer's where they forget everything and react by instinct.

Like when people transform into Werewolves and become mindless and aggressive.

I mean, there is a point here. Before Pit Bulls it was Rottweilers and before them Dobermans. Though I will say, you can actually train Rottweilers and Dobermans to be an effective guard dog.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Well, there was a thing about Chihuahua gangs in Mexico. As in the dogs themselves were the gang. That said, if you get attacked by a chihuahua and are wearing a sturdy pair of boots, or even just a fairly stiff closed toe shoe, you can generally solve the attack issue pretty swiftly. And with good aim leave the little shit on a roof where it can't get you again.

Think part of the problem is people don't know how to train dogs or intentionally train them to be mean.

I always disciplined mine if they showed aggression. Depending on why they where doing it though. My first Pitt did not like humans being aggressive with each other and I was fine with that. She always started with a warning nip but I never saw anyone continue to be aggressive after she'd do that.

They can also be high energy dogs. Gotta have a way for them to burn that energy.

Not all big dogs were specifically bred for generations to perfect certain dangerous traits.

When compared to other big dogs, Pit Bulls are responsible for the majority of bites, risk of fatality from bites, AND deaths from bites.

Can't say much for kids. But I never understood a full grown adult being killed by a single pitbull. They weigh like 60 pounds. I've had two and neither where capable of overpowering me and I'm weak.

Human aggression was specifically bred out of them.

From the data I've seen in the last several years, it's typically children and the elderly who make up for most of the deaths. So unsurprisingly our most vulnerable.

I think you're projecting here. The facts are very clear regarding Pit Bull bites and fatal bites. There have been numerous studies done.
