Dark World is kind of like Eternals with better visuals, less cinematography, but probably the best performance of a villain in the MCU
Malekith is your pick for best villain performance?

Speaking as someone who binged them all in 2019 and hasn't seen a single thing post-Endgame...

Thor 2. It may have actually put me to sleep.

Sorry to bump this topic, but I think sometimes I just follow online hype cycles for movies too closely before release. I remember how negative the discourse surrounding Captain Marvel was in the months before it came out vs. how positive it was for The Flash, and yet look which movie soared at the box office and which crashed and burned.

I feel like I'm genuinely appreciating Captain Marvel a bit more in hindsight. It at least felt like it had a more substantial plot than any of the pandemic-era releases except for Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Guardians. On the whole I also preferred Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange, and Thor (again, specifically speaking of the 2020s movies for the latter two) over Captain Marvel, but mostly for entertainment value and the directors' visions. Those three movies' scripts were on par with Captain Marvel's at best, and I swear I remember like nothing about Shang-Chi other than the bad guy. And even then, a lot of that is because of his ties to events all the way back in Iron Man. And at least Captain Marvel seemed to have a better sense of its identity compared to stuff like Black Widow, Eternals, Doctor Strange 2, and Ant-Man 3. Really more just couldn't fit all its ideas together into an especially interesting plot is all. I'd complain about people who think the movie hates men but it's useless.

Yet one made the grave mistake of starring a female and one starred a violent groomer

Yeah, I feel like we all came from two different timelines on the Multiverse of Madness since I thought it was thoroughly enjoyable. My suspicion has been that the people who hate it didn't watch WandaVision and/or do not know the comics at all. I get that not everyone can consume all things Marvel, and if that's why they don't like it that's fair, but I literally can't think of any other legitimate argument against it.

I loved WandaVision. I loved Doctor Strange 1.

While not the worst I found Multiverse of Madness to be profoundly disappointing.

On the contrary I loved WandaVision and disliked what they did with her in MoM! I get why they did it that way but I didn't care for it until near the end, but by that time the rest of the movie had already soured me.

And there's much more than just her that made MoM bad to me. America not even being a character and just a plot device, the CGI was for the most part not great (the fuckin third eye is HILARIOUSLY terrible and goofy looking and they try to make it a big epic thing), the tonal whiplash just doesn't walk the line on the right side for me (I would have preferred it be more rooted in horror like it was first announced as but then kind of went back on forth as the production went on). And I say that as a major Evil Dead fan, especially Evil Dead 1. Army of Darkness not so much but eh.

See I always thought it was three kinds of people hated MoM

1. America Chavez fans (she is absolutely a plot device and not a strong character)
2. People who really loved Wandavision (it kinda marginalizes the plot of Wandavision)
3. People who didn't watch Wandavision (It is potentially hard to care about/follow with no knowledge of Wandavision)

Personally I'm none of these so I thought it was totally fine. The combination of categories 2/3 makes it a bad movie though, America Chavez fan outrage aside, cause I imagine you Venn Diagram stuff and most are either 2 or 3.

I just read a summary of Wandavision to get the important points. Yea, America was very weakly done. I'm not a fan of horror, but I enjoyed the splashes of it in the movie and actually thought some of the horror scenes were comedic

I dont hate the movie, but my issues with Multiverse of Madness were:

-Dialogue was very poor, not nearly as sharp as other MCU films including the first Doctor Strange movie.
-Characters largely felt flat.
-CG was highly inconsistent.
-Fails to use the multiverse concept particularly well, there is one sequence that embraces it and thats about it.
-Slow in the first half.
-Doesnt embrace its horror aspect enough leaving it feeling watered down while still more horror-tinged than is usual.

Like, seriously, can anybody without looking recite five lines of dialogue from Multiverse of Madness? I feel like I could do that with any of these aside from The Incredible Hulk (which I havent seen in full since 2009) but can literally only remember the two Bruce Campbell lines from this. The dialogues all exposition!

MoM is an okay movie, but it's disappointing when looked at in the context of the MCU properties around it. It doesn't really build on Wandavision at all, and it doesn't do enough interesting stuff to justify the multiverse. The best aspects of it by far are the horror/Raimi related scenes.
