Floridas top law enforcement officials were repeatedly warned by their own staff that Gov. Ron DeSantis claim that the states crime rate is at a 50-year low a message he often uses as part of his presidential campaign was based on incomplete data that makes the accuracy of the claim impossible to verify.

Despite those warnings, DeSantis continued to promote the numbers on the campaign trail, three former officials with Floridas Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) familiar with the matter told NBC News.

Each of the former FLDE employees said there was a pervasive sense among agency staff that the numbers needed to say what their leadership wanted and that those demands were coming from the governors office for political reasons.

yeah I remember reading that a ton of counties, especially in the north half of the state aren't even required to report their data

it's also blatantly obvious they covered up the number of covid deaths and he knew about it

Not just knew about it, actively stopped people from reporting, fired the scientist who was doing the reporting, then sent the police to steal all of her devices and information so she couldn't keep reporting the truth.

Yep. If you were a Republican politician why would you not lie your ass off? Your party and conservative media aren't going to call you out for it and Republican voters have no problem with being lied to so long as you're telling them what they want to hear.

Nobody has the data to back that up because DeSantis isn't reporting the data to the people who track such things.

Extrapolating the number of police officers who died to Covid - which is one of the few stats DeSantis wouldn't want to manipulate because he'd be fucking over the law enforcement he'll need if he escalates his authoritarianism to the next level - Florida probably led the nation in Covid deaths.
