no new entrant has debuted at 100th in the leftyera but there's always time for a first!

Actually that reminds me, can post the final update on new entrant stats. Laguna reigns supreme which we've know for a while now, 5th place matching Yuna's in contest XXIII. Also the best performance from someone returning from a soft boot placement in the previous contest (the pink colour-coding), exceeding Sephiroth and Sazh's 10th place finishes.

Newly added this time: average placements for all new entrants in the contest. average finish of 53.1 for this year's cohort looks to be 3rd best in the lefty-era next to XXI and XXII. Last year's by far the worst average but I guess it led on hard boots and with only one in the top twenty.

Edit: also worth noting the median finish is the row beginning with Rosa at 57, other than XXIII which would be the average of Balthier and Shiva so 60.5 for that year. Interestingly the median is a worst placement than the average every year other than XXI and XXII with their sub-50 medians to go along with their sub-50 averages.

Rude doesn't deserve that. No idea why people kept nominating him in though.

Sounds good in theory but inevitably someone ends up saving Zidane and ruining it

Vaan can get under Gabranth if he deds before Day 4

that's actually probably easier than the reverse, which is getting Gabranth to survive 28 Days

Irvine is actually in the top half of the main FF8 cast. Though he manages that by not being as bad as the bottom 3, not because he's actually good.

I saw the Discord post first and was very confused how we weren't going to have a round before top 3.

What we all haven't realized yet is that "3" means the third day of October.

Traditionally it's been

23 per character Day 97 (max 91 saves)
25 per character Day 98 (max 74 saves)

Hour 2 can be very short on Day 98

I believe at least one contest didn't even have an H2 day 98. And today's will be short enough that I would definitely want a trade done H1.

Day 97 is 23 saves and the past three years have each lasted about 4 minutes into H2, which could be even less this year but if you're in within the first minute there should be no problem.

Day 98 is 25 saves, and we're routinely running around mid-60s for H1 saves this year. There's a chance there's no H2 but with total save count in the mid 60s it'd have to be 2 characters at 25 and the third in the mid-teens to lose H2 which is what happened... 2 years ago I think? But even then it would be an incredibly miniscule H2 on Day 98 if there is one.

Thankfully I'm not worried about any trades today so if I'm late to the topic, no big deal

The only character I don't know has the least chance of winning outright.

Still, who wins between the others is still up in the air enough to be invested. I feel like Red can do something crazy in the finals.
