The parties couldn't possibly differ any more right now. The ideologies are radically different. One doesn't simply 'switch' to Republican without strong personal-gain incentives

Take any of the many shady actions/outright crimes that Billyionaire supports republicans doing and have a democrat do them and you'll quickly see him demanding that democrat be locked up in prison for thirty years, or far worse.

Did he do something shady that would only be investigated if he was a democrat?

The person misrepresented themselves. That's fraud. So not only should we have a new election, but they should lock him up.

This seems to be happening quite a bit. I'm wondering if they're getting bribed or if their sociopathy just comes out and they decide to openly associate with the sociopath party.

On the contrary, this looks to be a pretty genuine move across the aisle. Just read an article and he's pretty passionate about slashing property taxes and the net positive it'd have on the average Dallas citizen, though the budget maintaining those high property taxes was passed anyways. So naturally he's switching.

They tried to present him as a rising star and """"progressive"""" when I was in school. That just shows how meaningless and mushy that term has become and how it's more branding than anything sometimes.

Also switching parties like this should immediately cause you to lose office and there should be a snap election called. I believe this, regardless of whether someone's switching from D to R or R to D, or moving to independent but caucusing with a party opposed to the one they were elected on.

It was a non-partisan election. He didn't run as a Democrat and ran virtually unopposed. He's also apparently right-leaning enough that

Yeah, it makes sense for people like Amash who went from republican to independent because of the Donnie cult. I mean, he's STILL a republican after all, it's just he's not that sort of republican. But to do a complete 180, like the chick from.... somewhere on the east coast that I can't remember is super shady as fuck and almost certainly due to back room deals from the right.

From what I've gathered in the whole ten minutes I've spent looking into this, is that the mayor of Dallas is largely a figurehead with very limited power, and this is likely political posturing for some future election Johnson intends to run in. While he's still a slime weasel who should be recalled, at least the actual impact that him changing parties will have on the city appears to be minimal.

It's fucking nuts that the entire US political system is based around Democrats and Republicans all the way down to the local level.
