I dont think even those people youre talking about would advocate for prison sentences for people who did get those abortions. If theres room to move, things move. Just something Ive noticed a lot lately.

Do you think this woman would have also got a 2 yr sentence if Roe had never been overturned? There were already some anti abortion laws on the books in nebraska before that iirc

The woman with the infant wasn't even given a jail sentence for that abortion though. She was given one for trying to hide the body. The woman's mother was the one that received the jail term for the abortion, which seems pretty freaking reasonable. I can't think of many instances where it's not a crime to perform a medical procedure outside of a clinical setting where the practitioner isn't a doctor. And also for desecrating a body. The charges these two women received seem awfully fair given the circumstances behind the case.

I know New Yorks abortion laws are based on 24 weeks being the cutoff period.

I regret to admit this was one of the bullshit lies I used to buy as an early teenager in my anti-abortion phase. Complete with "getting an abortion so they can look good in a bikini." I was a pretty fucking dumb kid.

(That might not even be the dumbest "justification" I had. I also genuinely thought of abortion as a "punishment" and that even in cases of rape it was "unfairly taking it out on the baby." At the very least I supported it in case of medical emergencies.)

Acknowledging our mistakes is how we grow, though.

Lets change the hypothetical. The woman is at her 40 weeks and scheduled for a C-Section on Monday. She then decides a week before that the recovery will be too painful and wants to get an abortion instead.

I was in 100% support of the laws that were already in place. The cutoff being 20-24 weeks (depending on state) and anything after that for medical emergencies only.

Like youve been saying, that basically put us in agreement for 99.9% of the abortions in the US.
