Only done a few rides so far and I've mainly stayed on the sidewalk. Some parts where I couldn't though, and it's so nerve wracking. I have lights on my front and back but still.

Other than that, this is fun. I need to get a new seat or some padded shorts or something for sure though

Ya, most bike come with crappy saddles.

Do stay safe, it is easy to totally fuck yourself up on a bike.
But don't be weary at some point you will know ever bump on you route.

Don't ride on sidewalks that's for walkers. We own the road too.

i see that happen at times. have to move out of the way :(.
once had to jump into the water to dodge one. (wasn't too deep but got wet).

depends on the area honestly. in some places it's illegal, in other places it's legal and even encouraged. i definitely wouldn't ride on the sidewalk in an urban area, but in some suburban places the sidewalks are empty and the roads are dangerous and full of distracted people who don't expect bike traffic. of course you need to use common sense, travel at a reasonable speed, watch out for driveways, etc

Yeah I know, but I just need some time to get comfortable. There are bike lanes all along the roads, but they're unprotected

I eventually want to get a Trike Motorcycle, but only for shooting around town on.

Bikes are not for the road in most of the US. It's a death wish and causes a lot of trouble for cars too.

But I swerve onto the side/grass well before approaching pedestrians to let them know I'm aware sidewalks are for them first.

Yes it is, especially in the city. If on the rare chance I ride, I take it to the woods or preserves

Try riding in Hanoi. Shits crazy. Keeps you on your toes.

i do this far enough ahead that the pedestrian doesn't feel like they need to get out of my way. if there are too many pedestrians in an area i just dismount until it's clear again. also american
