The Biden family's dog, Commander, has been moved out of the White House after a series of biting incidents.

It is still being decided what will happen to the two-year-old German Shepherd, a spokeswoman for First Lady Jill Biden said.
Just last week, Commander bit a Secret Service agent who required medical treatment at the scene.

It was the 11th time the dog has bitten a guard at the White House complex or at the family home in Delaware.

"The President and First Lady care deeply about the safety of those who work at the White House and those who protect them every day," the spokeswoman, Elizabeth Alexander, said in a statement on Wednesday.

"They remain grateful for the patience and support of the US Secret Service and all involved, as they continue to work through solutions. Commander is not presently on the White House campus while next steps are evaluated."

She did not say where the dog was currently living or if it would eventually return to the White House.

The statement was released shortly after CNN reported that Commander had been involved in more than the 11 biting incidents acknowledged by the Secret Service.

It said the real number was higher, with one bite requiring hospital treatment and others needing medical attention from on-site staff.

The White House press secretary has previously blamed the attacks on the stress of living at the residence. "As you all know, the White House complex can be unique and very stressful," Karine Jean-Pierre said in July.
"It is unique and it is stressful for all of us. So you can imagine what it's like for a family pet or family pets, more broadly," she added.

That same month, White House officials said they were attempting new training techniques on Commander following the biting incidents.
Secret Service records obtained by a conservative group through a Freedom of Information Act request reveal details of some of the biting incidents involving Commander.
One happened on 26 October 2022 after First Lady Jill Biden was unable to keep Commander under control, an email says. Commander "came charging at me", the agent wrote in the email.

About a week later another officer wrote that he had been bitten twice. Another officer that witnessed the attack said they were forced to use a "steel cart to shield" themselves from the dog.

Commander is one of the Biden family's two German Shepherds. Major, the younger of the two and the first rescue dog to have lived at the White House, was also involved in numerous biting incidents with Secret Service agents.
He was given additional training in 2021 and sent to live away from the White House with Biden family friends.

No dogs should have to be put down, maybe it's time to realize dog's arent meant to be pets.
Why are we putting dogs in situations they obviously can't handle/ be in.

We are forcing dogs in situations that makes them anxious, nervous, and upset continuously.
It's quite obvious dogs have come to realize they no longer want to be our best friend.

We domesticated them, messed up their dna from all the inbreeding than asked uninformed people to figure out how to take care of them after purposefully breeding them to be more aggressive.

It's pretty disgusting how situations revolving around animals are being handled in general these days.... What's even more disugisting is that we enable the behaviour and don't punish those who enable the behavior.

The only ones being punished are the animals.

What's worse is there is no humane solution anymore due to how long this has been going on and how many dogs there are all over the world..
We would need to build giant facilities to house all the abused/abusive dogs, and no ones gonna wanna pay for it so they will instead just all be put down.
It's very sad and tragic , but it is par for the course when it comes to the human race. We ARE monsters.

Seriously. People in this thread are talking about how this dog should be put down because other dogs would be. Do those dogs live in the WH? Even setting aside that these are rescue dogs, German Shepards are highly protective and territorial. Can you imagine a worse environment for a dog like that? Strangers and photography and constant noise and activity. There was no way this kind of dog was going to succeed in that kind of environment. He cant go around biting people, so he is being sent home, which is the proper move.

Previously, Right Wing entities have spent a lot of time to get records via FOIA to make sure people know that Commander is biting people. I am glad the GOP focus is on this instead of, you know, actually governing. Maybe less focus on this and more focus on finding a Speaker of the House. I am sure Commanders biting will be added to the bogus impeachment inquiry any day-assuming the House does any business at all in the near future. Eyeroll.

The parts I quoted are extremely ridiculous claims. They sound like things a group like PETA would say to justify their actions.

Also: It is good to know that the far right is very concerned about SS agents getting their hands bitten. It would have been great if they showed even remotely the same concern for the Capitol Police Officers who defended our nation from far right domestic terrorists on 1/6. Instead, those heroes are demonized by them and their cult leader for putting their lives on the line to protect the peaceful transition of power.

But yeah, lets focus on the dog bites instead of the police officers who were mercilessly beaten. In fact, theyll once again put up the guy who instigated the riot as their candidate for President.

This whole Commander thing is just another bad faith distraction from people who arent serious. I hope the SS agents are ok, and those dogs should not be in the WH. Put the same people in a twist about this will gleefully vote for Trump again, and that is just pure hypocrisy. I hate it.

Dogs need a lot of love and attention. And how much attention and love can the president give his dog when he is constantly busy and on the move. It just isn't a good idea for some one with a super important and super busy job that has you traveling all over the world to have a pet dog especially one that is so young.

Yeah. Biden is the only president to actually have rescue dogs as pets IIRC. I would have sent them away after 1 incident imo.
