I would not put this on the judge. I know people who aren't familiar with the legal system might be eager to jump down the throats of others, but this is actually pretty common. It's common for judges to delay proceedings of a criminal case for a defendant who is already in the process of defending other criminal matters in other jurisdictions when a good attorney raises the argument.

Can we (the people) really use common practice with someone like Trump?

This isn't just Some Guy this is the former President, and someone who's already been impeached several times, and found liable in civil court as early as a week ago. We can't be treating Trump like he isn't a parasite, clinging on for dear life because he can bail himself out if he becomes the President again.

Aah, following up on this, I knew I recognized the name. He's one of those chronic "The left is mean and forces people to become Republicans," and "You must befriend and understand bigots/Trumpers/etc." types.

On every website having an old-ass account suddenly coming back to post pointless chuddery is a negative thing.

Who was the poster saying the DC judge should recuse herself but "wanted more time to become familiar with Cannon" before stating a view?

That poster is no longer with us due to the shocking proceeding posts of his downplaying January 6th.

Yes, yes we can.

He's an American citizen bound to the same laws we are. In fact, him being a former president is all the more reason he needs to bound to those same laws. He was in a position of power, a position of leadership. He should be held to a higher standard and accountability because of that.

So why did she not treat him equally? Giving him extra concessions earlier on?

She may well have. She could be completely failing at her job in other ways and could he. Trump fanatic for all I know.

All I said is I wouldn't blame the judge for this because this is extremely common and actually in line with her job.

No, I agree with you. That's what I'm saying is, if anything, this should be commuted and treated with higher priority than that of a civilian.

This is bullshit and you know it.

Even if he were just some guy, the context of his case should forbid her from delaying it like this.

"Can you just not have my trial until after the statute of limitations runs out and there won't even be a trial?" is not a delay that should be considered for even the hottest of minutes.

It's not even a self-pardon thing. If he becomes president again, he can fuck with the DOJ just enough to make sure any pending (federal) litigation against him just... disappears.

And that would include this case.

It is deeply fucked up.

Wait - are you saying that she might have been correct to give earlier concessions? (may well have) That the higher board of judges were incorrect in overruling it?

All I said is I wouldn't blame the judge for this because this is extremely common and actually in line with her job.

Do you have a link to her doing this for other people appearing in her court? Because your conclusion "this is her doing her job correctly" rests on her doing the same for others, otherwise it becomes "doing what appears proper as a favor looks like a favor because I don't do it for others"

A judge on Thursday scolded federal prosecutors in the classified documents case against Donald Trump as she postponed a hearing to determine if the lawyer for one of the former presidents co-defendants had a conflict of interest.

U.S District Judge Aileen Cannon admonished prosecutors for wasting the courts time, telling them they had presented arguments during Thursdays hearing that had not been properly raised in earlier court filings.

She said she would continue the hearing at a later date for Walt Nauta, a Trump valet charged with conspiring with Trump to conceal classified documents from investigators.

Special counsel Jack Smiths team had asked for hearings to ensure that Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira were aware of potential conflicts because their lawyers have represented other key figures in the case. Both men were charged alongside Trump with obstructing government efforts to recover classified documents hoarded at Mar-a-Lago, the former presidents Florida estate.
