Are there a lot of mech battles? I like those mech and Kaiju fighting stuff.

Would have been my game of the year but it was a VERY busy year for me.

The game is half visual novel and half mech battle strategy.

Do not get too expectant on seeing high graphics when it comes to the battles though. It all takes place on a rather low-detail grid.

Never got cheap enough for me to bother with a game where nobody ever answers the question "is the gameplay any good?"

I don't give any shits about the story at all, but may suddenly care if I can beat up mechs whenever I feel like it. If it's all "read way too much dialogue, do this one actual-gameplay part you can never replay, then repeat until end credits", then fuck that - I'll keep my money, or import another Super Robot Wars or something.

If that's what you actually want, go look into Eternal Radiance. I kinda like it, even though it kicked my ass.

Yes the gameplay is good.

Yes, you can fight any time you want. Old missions can be replayed whenever.

No, you cannot ignore the story. Going through the story is required to unlock the harder stuff as you go through it.

The gameplay is fine, but if you're not interested in the story it's not strong enough to play for its own sake.

That said, 13 Sentinels has one of the best written stories I've ever seen, and no, I can't tell you anything about it other than that it's anime+scifi.

I liked it a lot. That game led me down the road of actually trying some visual novels (like Steins;Gate) because I wanted to play something similarish to that. Story is confusing to follow but that was sort of the point. The combat graphically isn't anything special, but it still has a cool look with the lights and when a bunch of enemies pop from some big attacks heh

The gameplay isn't incredibly deep but you still have to be paying attention plus on hard those swarms move extremely fast. I just played on normal.

Look the outstanding part of the game is its story. If you insist on ignoring that, then honestly you're not going to get all that much out of it.

There are parts of the story I felt were odd or quickly forced, but absolutely play the game just realize what ya are getting into. I bought both this game and Persona Strikers cheap new at Gamestop (yes they were sealed, achktually). And 13 Sentinels is the one I really got into.

There is an extra chapter where you can just fight battles for fun or challenge with no story and I tell myself sometimes to go back to that and I haven't. It's also an easy Platinum ttophy fwiw. One battle getting an S was rather tough but only took me four/five tries.

You can Platinum it just playing it regularly.

I enjoyed it, but by the end I felt like some of the twists were there for the sake of covering certain sci fi elements. The most egregious one was the fact that it was all a Matrix-esque simulation. It just felt unnecessary since by that point we already knew it was a manufactured invasion Not sure why everything being digital mattered.

Honestly doesnt seem like youd enjoy it. Its like 90% visual novel and the actual combat is visually closer to Asteroids than a mech game.

Fancy Asteroids with some strategy, yea! The battles are more than even Missile Command. Some story spoilers I feel like some relationships weren't developed fully enough and ya know what I don't remember enough of their names by this point.

The story does involve tropes of sci-fi and what you already know and talking about the story in any real detail does ruin many things. I could say someone is a ham and cheeseburger sandwich and......It's too late, I was going to make a trope behind a spoiler, but mobile spoilers won't cooperate.

The gameplay is pretty whatever. It's not bad, but it's not the draw at all. If you're considering it solely for the battles, I'd look elsewhere for sure.

The story is like 90% really good, but I feel like a lategame twist hurts it a lot. It's still a good time if you like visual novels, but I've found that other VNs stick the landing a lot better than 13S did.

Just to elaborate upon the twist for those who have played it, with a heavy spoiler warning for those who haven't: The simulation twist just didn't land for me and kinda knocked the game down a tiny bit. I saw it coming for a while, but I was hoping that it wouldn't go that way. I feel like that twist has been done a lot, and other stories have done it better, so it just felt like it took away some of the stakes for no real payoff. Removing that twist would have led to me loving the game way more, though I still like it a lot.

To 13 Uhh blank ok this will work end game story spoilers I didn't think this was some sort of Star Ocean 3 twist, just there was a lot of time travel and a J-idol sings and saves a lot of ppl for the final fight. I have more to type but meh it's late.

But I will say the one girl who likes the first person you played just infects everyone with the sickness so to speak so everyone else can fight back. But there was time travel.

The story is good, but ppl dismiss the combat part too much, it can be satisfying sending out your tanks in a you shall not pass situation. Someone fires off a super missile. And pop pop pop.

I am going to shut myself off officially, and lay down but I do want to yammer on about certain games and I saw this post on my work break and I wanted to bump it earlier.

Sorry I couldn't mention names but the girl who runs track is rad haha but wow I left my posts really open. Anyone could be dating or interested in anyone.

Bought it on sale but I'm still unsure I wanna play it tbh. When people aren't willing to discuss the game cause "trust me bro, it's good", it doesn't inspire confidence. But maybe it won't be bad.

The story is just a bunch of twists and turns and piecing things together you can watch any video on youtube they won't say shit about the story but if the combat looks too uninteresting. Also I guess you can just play it on easy and set up a bunch of rail guns.

That will get you through the combat real quickly, but I like the combat. It really is a game that I'll say there are better stories this year or two and it is fun putting it together but this isn't Yakuza:Like a Dragon or something where I feel like the pay off is worth the hype.

It's a real fun game though.
