Im honestly surprised that 4 day work weeks, 10 hours a day, isnt something that is being pushed. Schools can be adjusted to that as well and it probably benefits the entire country across the board.

Really? I would prefer 3 days off in a row personally

As someone who has a job that will never be WFH and I have to commute I would rather just do my five 8 hour days. Not that I have far to travel but when you throw in a 10 hour work day at a demanding job both from a physical and a mental effort then you add on that travel time both before and after work it starts to become too much of a grind for my tastes.

I start to feel like I have very little time during those 4 days of work and it all just becomes a 4 day blur of work and sleep. I'd rather feel like I had a chunk of downtime each day where I feel like I have been away from work and enjoyed myself some.

If I had a WFH job I'd be more open to it.

the symmetry of a 1/2/1/2/1 week would be pretty nice, and hump day is usually a "fuck this" day.

Im confused. Would it not be 2/1/2/2 and it repeats?

Well not every job has to be like that. I currently work 7 on and 7 off. Just a different standard than 5 day work weeks

This for me too
I prefer shorter work days in general. If we could do like 6 days of the same amount of hours total, I'd prefer it.

Work motivates me to get up and about and then I'll actually do something more than play on my phone. The issue with long days is that now I've become tired and fitting in things that I also want to do on those days isn't possible. While that's fine for chores or video games, it doesn't work for things fitness related.

Great! About time the common man benefits from the collective advances in technology and automation by our best and brightest, instead of just the wealthy capitalist class reaping all the rewards simply because they inherited or were in a position to capitalize.

The 4-day, 32-hr work week is being tested. And it's a resounding success everywhere it's been attempted.

Depends on a lot of things.

Work from home? Fuck yeah.

Commuting? No. Did that for a few months and I hated it. I wake up around 5:00 for work, my shift was 7:30-6:00. So it was like Id get home and basically have two hours before bedtime. Despite having the three days off, I felt like I didnt truly have time. Im much happier working the 7:00 - 3:30 shift, I feel like now I can do anything on any day instead of Im locked into these three days.

Fours with an 8-hour shift (with wages adjusted, of course)? Sign me the fuck up.

The tests were with the same yearly salary as a 40-hr work week.

It turned out that the employees were sufficiently more productive to offset the loss of 8 hours of worktime.

The only problem with making it 32 hours is that people will lose money in the current system. Most Americans can't afford that

Those studies generally never go into depth how they archived that, what jobs they were, nor even what industries they focused on.

So its safe to call them out as BS tbh.

Its perfectly feasible for some jobs and not at all feasible for others. The issue is, the jobs where it isnt feasible wont be the ones where they trial this sort of thing, so you cant really generalise from any results.

I did 4/10s for about 8 years and it was great.

I loved it while it lasted. It's definitely better for productivity in certain sectors like manufacturing. At a lot of manufacturing jobs people don't just start running machines at the beginning of the day. You gotta get stuff set up, let things warm up and make sure everything is running properly before you go. Then you gotta clean up and all that shit at the end of the day. That takes time.

It's better to have one less day of doing all that in exchange for a bit more run time each day.

I actually could limp along working four days a week if I wanted to. I work in an ER Monday through Thursday and pick up an extra shit in the inpatient pharmacy. Three days off every week would give me a lot of time to work on my novel.

Of course, I have a three-day weekend this week and I've used it to play video games and watch movies. I swear I'll knuckle down once the Halloween season is over.

Depends. My job is complex and mentally demanding. After 8-9 hours, my battery is empty. Since I work 42 hours a week (on 5 days), I'm not sure if 4 day work weeks would work for me. It would require to work 10-11 hours a day which I probably couldn't do.
