the first theory that comes to mind is that america would probably look like the rest of the anglosphere without republicans, since the dems align pretty similarly with the leadership of those countries

but what's not so clear is how hegemon status plays downstream into domestic policy in an america with an absolute democrat monopoly

In simpler terms, With only one party, whats stopping us from potentially becoming like China?

Having two parties is probably better than a single party state, and is essential for democracy on principle, but the GOP in its modern form absolutely needs to go. Best case scenario is that with it gone, the Dems can divide into the establishment and progressive and continue on as usual.

The difference being that neither party would be determined to abolish democracy and destroy the country.

It does make me curious about the policy an unopposed democratic party would have. In principal, I'm opposed to single-party systems.

The present USA is already too no-real-choices for my liking. One political party, and a merry band of crooks, cultists, and clowns.

I dont know how much better. The right threshold would just be moved slightly less extremist, but we'd still have to deal with centrist capitalists simping for profit services like healthcare and prisons.

But at least abortion and gay matters would be settled

Even if ignorance is no excuse, it'll be nice not being subject to the right's mind manipulation that fostered said ignorance. I've put my foot in my mouth before, with mixed messages toward abortion.
