just rewatched that one with the phone sex line operator. Better known as the stall, episode, with the toilet paper. So phone sex lines used to be much much more popular like decades ago right? Does anybody even use them anymore? They all went out of business?

I remember a LOT of commercials for them in the 90s when I was a kid watching Cinemax late at night. Don't think I've seen one in well over two decades.

I dont know anyone who ever used one. I remember seeing commercials for them all the time after like 11pm when I was a teenager. I always imagined that this is pretty much what it would be like, followed by a $50 phone bill:

There were jokes among service industry employees in the 80s and 90s about their managers spending half their shifts in the office on 1-900 lines.

Very expensive and the workers try to keep you on the phone as long as possible. If youre already halfway there when you make the call then it wont last as long.

and yah, they were extremely popular and probably mid to late 90s started dying off

Basically any time after midnight you would see 1 900 numbers.

I remember having a subscription to Rollong Stone in the 90s and early 2000s too. Entire back pages in the ads area had 1900 numbers. I think many other magazines targeting adults had similar content.

People before ubiquitous internet had the same interests in sex people do now. Only it wasn't Webcams and websites I'm 1996 but phones.
