Bruh what? Seriously? Do you think Trump voters don't go on vacations?

I'm not sure why you're trying to make this a political thing at all. It has nothing to do with politics. This is weird, bro. Stop being weird about it.

They're fun, relatively low cost, and provide lots of options. If you wanna see like 5 destinations in a week they're good for that. The food on the boats is always good.

$14,000 is a ridiculous amount to spend on a cruise. I cruise regularly and they aren't typically anywhere near that expensive, even for a suite.

That being said, they're also very fun and it's a nice getaway where most things are included in the price. You get to see new places, go on excursions, good food (generally), etc.

Its the easiest way to book a vacation to visit multiple places. Instead of having to book separate hotels and figure out transportation in every place you just go where the cruise takes you and then you go back to the ship.

This assumes you dont want to stay for an extended period of time in any one of the locations.

Who doesn't want to be stuck in the middle of the ocean, packed on a floating hotel with thousands of other people?

It's like a resort, but a lot worse!

It blows my mind that today's cruise ships have restaurant chains on them. Saw one with a "Johnny Rockets" on it with the sign and 50s diner decor included.

Seriously though. I've gone to places. I've seen the grand canyon, I've been to Disney Land, stayed in fancy hotels in big cities (usually for weddings), etc.

I don't see how any of it is worth spending thousands of dollars for a week-long existence in a place that's slightly different from home.

I legitimately don't understand people who travel as a "hobby." It's just so odd from my perspective.

Most of them are all inclusive. Meaning if you plan on enjoying the entertainment, it will come out to about even. I personally want to go on 70,000 tons of metal at some point in my life. 60 metal bands over a 3 day period. That said, I can't help but criticize the cruise ship for only being 3 days instead of the standard 5 or 7.

No, but all places on Earth are just other places on Earth. Yeah, they look different and smell different and have different people and food, but like...how different can one place be from any other place? It's a novelty more than anything.

Idk, I think the internet has really dampened any latent desire I might have had to travel. I can just look up pictures, videos, etc. of anything I want to see at any time. Spending a bunch of money, sitting on a plane for 8+ hours, and going through a bunch of customs/visa/agency shit just to go to a place to see something in person is just...unnecessary to me.

If I had $100,000,000 I wouldn't spend $14,000 on an 8-day vacation. It's wasteful no matter how much is in the bank.

Again, this is only my opinion. I'm willing to keep discussing it, but I don't want anybody to think I'm attacking them personally. People tend to take things personally around here. Some of them even get so offended that they start attacking me for no reason lol.

I wouldn't, either.

I'd rent a private jet and fly to where I want to go visit. Or charter a private yacht to take me... to someplace like Monaco for their Grand Prix.

But a cruise ship? No.

Im just trying to explain that youre not really getting it. Ive seen pictures of all of the places I visited; its nothing like going to them, where you see, hear, smell, taste and feel all at the same time. Looking at pictures is a tiny snippet of that. I'm reading these posts about wanting to take cruises, and I have to shake my head. What is wrong with you people? Not only are there pirates and giant sea creatures, but... it's probably better if I tell you a tale. A tale of a fateful trip. It started on this tropic port, aboard a tiny ship. Their mate was a mighty sailing man. The skipper? Brave and sure. Five passengers set sail that day for a three hour tour.

When suddenly, the weather started getting rough. The tiny ship was tossed. If not for the courage of the fearless crew, the Minnow would be lost. Thankfully the next morning, the ship took ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle. The survivors were Gilligan. The Skipper too. The millionaire, and his wife. The movie star, the professor, and Mary Ann...

Sorry. I went on a tangent. The point is, don't go on cruises.

Thats the thing- we dont do packages. Everything is planned and private for us.

On our trip to Japan, for example, we got first class JR Passes (because we went during peak cherry blossom season and we didnt want to get the economy JR Passes since they are first come/first serve), and we hired private tour guides to meet us at the hotel and guide us around for each of our destinations. It was beautiful, amazing, and extremely educative on the Shintoism and their religious culture (we even slept at a temple, where they had curfews and strict co-ed rules to the point my wife and I couldnt even sleep in the same building!). Our main stops were-
Hiroshima, Miyajima, Himeji, Koyosan, Kyoto, Nara, Nikko, and Tokyo.

But our first international trip to Greece, we were running cheapo and we did two things- rented a car and drove all around Greece for a week+ (Corinth, Nemea, Mycenae, Nafplio, Epidarus, Olympia, Patras, Delphi, Meteroa, Thermopylae), and a three day bus tour of Athens and surrounding area. The latter sucked and is sort of erased from my memory since we were stuck with like 50 people and could barely hear the tour guide, whereas the former, even though we had no tour guides, is vividly fresh in my memory because it was so wild that we did all that (driving like a thousand miles in a little over a week in a foreign country, just to sightsee).

The one cruise Ive taken stopped at many interesting locations I would have never visited otherwise. We started at Venice, then went to Bari, Santorini, Athens and Dubrovnik, Croatia (a walled city thats the place where the Kings Landing scenes were shot in GoT) with one additional day at sea.

For me it was very relaxing. Food is covered, you have a show every night, and the nature of the ship makes you feel like youre either cut off from the stresses of the world or actively exploring a new environment all the time. Basically, its like an all-inclusive resort that changes location automatically every day. Very cool.

I feel like all this spiritual "experience other cultures" stuff is way outside my wheelhouse. I still don't fully understand how traveling a few thousand miles and standing in another location is going to enlighten or change me, when I can learn all this stuff by reading about places and meeting people online. Physically being in a location isn't of the same importance as it used to be.

It's just expensive, time consuming, and exhausting. I can go to the Eiffel Tower on Google Maps right now if I wanted to. I can eat at a French restaurant. I won't, because I don't care about French food, but I can if I want to.
