A lot less finny fun.

Another weird one. Realistic humans. Blood. Captain Jack sounds like Tiddus doing a pirate voice.
These enemies with the moonlight vulnerability gimmick are kind of annoying so I'm taking a linear route and not really stopping to look for more EXP.

Yeah it's annoying. They're also super vulnerable to magic. It has extra effects on them

Told you in my post though. Check out the status screen for your Drives, they detail how to gain EXP for that Drive. Valor gains EXP with each and every physical hit you land in that form IIRC

Valor gets exp every hit
Wisdom gets exp every heartless you beat
Master gets exp every drive orb you get
Final gets exp every nobody you beat

You have to be on each respective form to get the exp in the first place
Master raises

Maybe im just blind, but how am i supposed to get the puzzle piece thats behind poohs house in 100 acre wood? I dont have a party with me while within the book to enter valor form for lv 2 high jump..

You need to level your forms higher

Level up Valor more.

How am i supposed to enter valor form without goofy if my party disappears whenever i enter the 100 acre book?

Level up Valor somewhere else then come back.

100 Acre Woods doesnt have enemies so you couldnt do it there regardless.

Also drive form levels get storygated.

Just level it up some more and it will make sense.

Specifically, the max level for them depends on how many Drive Forms you already have

No, you get the form's movement ability to equip in your base format.

I've done the Aladdin world. Went to the cave.
And damn, there's my problem. I'd lost my Valor form, it was only giving me Wisdom. All I had to do was swap Donald out for Goofy.

I've got a pumpkin level and whatever Pride Lands is. Latter's lv26, former's 24. Pumpkin land it is.
One of the previous levels either got upgraded or respawned too but it's on the other end of the world map and I don't know man that's kind of a long space trip.

pumpkin level is always one of my favorites to go to

Man, I feel like I haven't seen any of the Organisation dudes for a while.
They'd look pretty out of place in this Halloween/Christmas hybrid level though.
I can't really imagine one going "Yes... The only reason they want Christmas is because of the presents... They don't care for your decorating efforts at all..." so maybe it's for the best.

This one's been another back and forth line too. Go to Halloween land, go to Christmas land, back to Halloween land, back to Christmas land.
Now I've got to fight a big evil bag who's one re-texturing away from being one of the common Luigi's Mansion enemies.
The boss fight is on the conveyor is kinda hectic. Took some getting used to the alternating left/right/centre/prompt while focusing on the attacks.

Pride Lands.
It's lions. It starts with the bit where the big lion gets run over by the Pride Lands equivalent of an F Zero race.
I assume that's the first half of the movie and the second half is the main lion destroying the evil lion.

And oh no it's swapped my player character out for whatever this is supposed to be.

Hercules land had a new chapter didn't it? I'm making a break for it.

Revisiting Twilight Town is making me think about the intro.
Roxas walks around town doing nothing of intrigue for actual hours.
What was the point of all that?

Well, if it isn't king emo himself.
I have no interest in whatever Cloud's going to say.
I'd rather hear Sephiroth spaz out about darkness if possible.

This whole time, I've had this looming feeling that even if I beat the game I won't be able to form a worthwhile opinion on it because I watched all the cutscenes.
I'd have to do another lap skipping the whole cutscenes because that's the real game.

Anyway something something computer Digimon something Sark and Tron look like Angela Anaconda characters something I feel like this was a Dexter's Lab episode where his video game sent him to cyberspace something.

I'm at the water guy.
And I still feel like I don't know how to play.
Here goes.

You're supposed to learn guard timings or wisdom form's quick step ability as a pseudo dodge.

All the colorful enemies flying all over the place have conditioned me to jump and mash X until it stops working.

So is this like the halfway point of the game? Because there's glowing circles orbiting all the levels on the map. I went back to the Mulan level and there's an Organisation guy prancing around in the snow. He's got the Dragon Longsword from Runescape.

If I'm thinking about the right thing, this isn't random. If you want, I can spoil/explain this mechanic.

This giant monster fight in the Mulan level is really boring.
These heartless guys make for boring enemies in general.
Camera really does whatever it wants sometimes.

Activate drive.
Sora turns into a shadow running around on all fours.
Doesn't do the air combo.
Cool.

Yeah that's one of the more notorious hidden mechanics.

It should still be able to do air combos though

It's just to get a collectable. You can ignore them if you want. But it's good to give people reason to re-explore.

That coin chest boss is probably better if you actually know what you're doing.
I was running out of magic and having to take the walk of shame round and round the box while the meter refilled.

Auron being manhandled by this game, brainwashed at the drop of the hat like it's a Saturday morning cartoon.

This game is just not a good place for FFX characters to show up at all. It doesn't care if they found all your Simurghs 10 encounters in a row or if you beat Penance without using Yojimbo. Once they cross the border into KH2 land, all bets are off.

I hate these enemies you can only attack from behind.
You hit them twice, they turn in time for the third hit.
You reflect the fireball and do the triangle command, it misses most of the time.
You walk up to attack one from behind, Sora does a lunge move that clips through them and puts you in the wrong spot.
Party members are worthless since there's no knockback to make up for the low damage.
And if there's multiple it seems inevitable you get stunlocked by fire breath.

The Agrabah ones? They're really slow, I never found much issue with them. By that point you have a ton of limits/summons/forms to ignore their gimmick too

Often I start hitting from behind and Sora finds his way around to the side.
I don't really wanna be using long animations or spending things like drive that I'm gonna have to slowly rebuild on common enemies.
I tried reverting after using drive and it took away all the meter instead of letting me stop and start it like a devil trigger.

No clue. It was a flying carpet they used to get back through the desert to the town. It took a weird route so I could hit lots of enemies.

Carpet is a sentient creature, it just can't speak.

On the bright side, it was the only other character to help me in that Jafar fight.
Which was less like a fight and more like a camera themed patience test.

Yeah, when people talk about the great boss fights in this game, they mostly mean the Organization members.

And mostly just the versions you fight in Final Mix.

Jafar always sucks, though. They try to be funny with him and it never works.

Did Halloween place 2. Not gonna lie, as soon as I got the gist of where the cutscene was going, I hit skip. The presents are missing someone took the presents that's great.

Twilight town is open and it says battle level 47. That's higher than my level. I guess if all these disparate quests and lectures about hearts and DARKNESS are about to actually culminate in something though, I can't say no to that. In I go.

The streets of Twilight Town have become harsh and inhospitable without Seifer and friends patrolling.

Uh.
There goes Axel I suppose.
I'm not enormously attached to this character but I guess we can do him the honor of letting him keep his name while giving every other organisation character dumb new names.
